Church on The Hill has a wonderful heritage of great godly men in our church.

And we will be raising the bar on raising up, reaching, and teaching the next generation of godly men to take our church and the Gospel forward until God calls his church home.

I knew I landed at the right church when you blessed my wife with a bouquet of flowers.

But what I did not share is what you gave me. - Knife. Who gives a new pastor a knife, a knife with his name on it. Is this a set up? Well if he doesn’t pan out we can set him up with his knife and his name on it.

Church on The Hill will become a church that turns out and produces world changing godly men.

Next week I will be taking about how society has tried to tear down men.

But on Fathers day I want to make a charge as your pastor, it is time for men to man up.

1 Kings 2:1–3 NIV

1 When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son. 2 “I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, 3 and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go

Vs 1: Final advice to his son.

Death bed final words carry more weight.

My dads death bed. My boys. Jay, I am sorry.

2 “I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man,

Be STRONG. - ACT like a MAN.

Why would King David have to tell his boy to act like a man?

Solomon was not quite like his father. David was a man’s man. Solomon was not much of a man. David was raised rugged, worked on the family ranch, and became a warrior. Remember this interaction with King Saul / Goliath.

1 Samuel 17:34–36 NIV

34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, 35 I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God.

Wow...Now that is a man! Talk about man up.

Solomon had been brought up in the palaces—in fact, he had been brought up in the women’s palaces.

He was surrounded by women most of his life.

Donnie" McClurkin, Jr. is an American gospel singer and minister. Grew up in a all African american church with mostly women. He started walking and talking like some of the ladies in the church. Until a older godly women in the church (Church Mom) put him in his place. Men don’t walk and talk like that.

J. Vernen McGee: Called Solomon a sissy. Dr. McGee believed that David did not have much in common with his son.

Ok be strong and act like a man. You are about to be King. You need to show strength.

Now pay attention that was important but this is even more important.

1 Kings 2:3 NIV

3 and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go

Walk in obedience to Him. Keep His decrees and commands. So that you may prosper.

David learned the hard way. Even though God called David a man after God’s own heart, David committed adultery and had a faithful solider murdered to cover up his sin. He paid dearly for it.

Son listen to me… Obey and follow God. Stay close to God and his word. Man up. Then He will prosper you.

Church on The Hill we are going to relaunch our men’s ministry. July 10th will be our first Men’s bq here at the church. After that we will launch a few men’s accountability groups and bible studies.
