To Jimmy/ the family:
Why does this hurt and is it ever going to end?
Death is the sins’ ultimate form. It’s horrible.
Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
He’s talking about spiritual death, but what is physical death but a metaphor for the spiritual and the other way around.
You know you’ll see Bethany again because she confessed Christ, you know it’s only a matter of time, yet this pain, this hatred of death isn’t soothed and that’s ok. Death, as a manifestation of sin deserves to be hated.
What truth heals this wound? That death has died. Through Christ death has been defeated. Death has died.

To members:
What does it say about you? That this family views you in this manner.
How loving must you be in order for a family to run to you in their darkest hour?
I remember when I was young … run to my grandfather… his love healed me.
Be encouraged to keep loving.

To visitors:
I don’t know Jimmy, I don’t know who Bethany is… Maybe this is your first time in a church and this is all really uncomfortable.
We don’t do shallow here. This is a family. That’s what a church is supposed to be.
