Recap
Jude uses some examples of nature to describe those determined on destroying the church
Those that crept in unaware
Unregenerate, not born again believers posing and acting like believers
Trying to infiltrate the church to destroy it from within.
Jude warning not of things to come, but of things present and close to 2,000 years those same people still have not prevailed as His church still stands.
Likened unto clouds
They are without water carried about of winds
Disappointing and driven by the evils of this world
Our nugget of wisdom
Rooted in the Word of God
Resolved to the Word of God
Likened unto twice dead trees
Started to produce some fruit, but the fruit withered to nothing
Again, fell short, no fruit, did not meet expectations
Our nugget of wisdom
Be determined to be a fruitful Christian
Be determined to be a protective Christian

Next illustration from nature being raging waves of the sea.
Highly illustrative and relatable considering where we live
Waves all around
Know their power
Know their unpredictability
Fisherman all the time from the cliffs here in HPP
Don’t ever turn your back to the ocean
Picture of that wave crashing in creating all of that foamy water as it goes away.
Hurricane waves crash in and leave debris all over the place, total mess.
Everyone to see
Not want to be around that till it gets cleaned up
Jude was describing in the first two illustrations was a lack of good fruit
In the next two, an abundance of evil works or bad fruit left behind in their wake
Just like those waves come crashing in and leave that foamy mess behind, so did these apostates, false teachers, wolves in sheeps clothing
It is to their shame
Their reputation that takes the blow
The church reputation takes a blow
We think of that mire and dirt and the defiled life upon that false teacher however it does being defilement on the church as well
The world today loves to find new sticks to beat the church with and these false teachers leave a trail of them
See the hypocrisy, see they are all the same, see that’s exactly why I don’t go
That shame means confusion, disgrace and dishonor
20 But the wicked are like the troubled sea,
When it cannot rest,
Whose waters cast up mire and dirt.
Nugget of Wisdom
Nugget of Wisdom
Taken from our local community
Hilo specifically over the centuries has been hit hard by some pretty big waves, or tsunamis
Leveled the gulch towns
Leveled Hilo Bay
To respond to this and defend they built the breakwall
Narrow
Long
Rock, lots of huge rock
That is our response or nugget of wisdom from Jude to battle these waves of the sea
To have our church not be polluted with shame
To be
Narrow
Matthew 7:13-14 - 13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
It is not a bad thing in this broad world to be narrow minded.
Bible, King James Bible
Marriage, 1 man and 1 woman
Home - Jesus, Father, Mother, Children
Salvation - Jesus only
These false teachers come in with alternative after alternative, I think and I thinks
God says narrow,
Long
1 Cor 4:2 - Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
In your place for a long time
Believe what you believe for a long time
Being resolved in the Word of God for a long time
Built on the rock
Psalms 18:2 - The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
Acts 4:11 - “This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.”
1 Cor 10:4 - 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
How do we stand up to these raging seas and protect the church from the destruction and mess they leave behind
The long breakwall
A narrow minded church; thus saith the Lord
A church in it for the long haul
A church built on the rock
That is the formula for standing up to those waves
