Satisfies his wrath Romans 3:25
Satisfies his wrath Romans 3:25
25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. [1]
God put his Son forward as a propitiation. What is the meaning of propitiation. The exact translation of the word is mercy seat. What is the Mercy Seat ἱλαστήριον.
The mercy seat is the place that the high priest would sprinkle the blood of the sacrificed animal once a year on the day of atonement Lev 16:2. The mercy seat sat on top of the arc of the covenant it was a solid gold.
MERCY SEAT The golden cover for the ark of the covenant. It was 2.5 cubits long and 1.5 cubits wide. It was made of pure gold and had two cherubim on top of it (Exod 25:17–22). The mercy seat represented Yahweh’s throne on earth, and His presence resided there. Yahweh commands Moses in Lev 16:2–16 to send Aaron before it on the Day of Atonement to sprinkle the blood of sacrifices there; he is to bring incense with him “so that he does not die.”
The word translated
The Hebrew word kapporeth means covering. It would seem the writer Paul the apostle is trying to give us a word picture
While it is clear through the book of Hebrews that the tent and the sacrificial system and the arc of the covenant are pictures of the heavenly things themselves Heb 10:1 a shadow of the things to come.
