The Impact of a Father

Funny List! Bart Leger
It’s good to be a man, isn’t it, men? “Why?” you women may be asking?
1: Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat.
2: A 5-day holiday requires only one suitcase.
3: When clicking through the channels, you don’t have to stop for every shot of somebody crying. NOR do you feel compelled to pause to see what is on the Hallmark channel...
4: The News, Outdoor and Sports channel are the complete package for cable/satellite
5: Michael Bolton doesn’t live in your universe.
6: Car mechanics tell you the truth.
7: Gray hair and wrinkles only add character to men.
8: If another guy shows up at the party in the same outfit, you just might become lifelong buddies.
9: The occasional well-rendered belch is practically expected.
10: If we are not hungry, we consider the world to be in a pretty good place. :)
As a young boy growing up in church, I remember every Mother’s Day was a salute to Mothers. But on Father’s Day, all the preacher ever did was tell the dad’s what they should be doing right instead of what they have been doing right. It was more like a boot camp than a day to honor dads. So today, dads, this one’s for you…
How often do we try to figure out the “Dad” thing on our own? You know what I’m talking about...
Funny Picture! Instructions??? Who needs those?
So Let’s take a look at some common Verses that are “Thrown Out” on Father’s Day...
Ephesians 6:1–3 CSB
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, because this is right. Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, so that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life in the land.
By the way… “Youngins” this one comes with an important promise! “so that is may go WELL with you and you may live a LONG LIFE...
Psalm 127:3–5 CSB
Sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord, offspring, a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the sons born in one’s youth. Happy is the man who has filled his quiver with them. They will never be put to shame when they speak with their enemies at the city gate.
This Psalm is great encouragement to parent well!
Now, Here are a few others that we get Hit Over the Head with...
Ephesians 6:4 CSB
Fathers, don’t stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Colossians 3:21 CSB
Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they won’t become discouraged.
So today, I was to bring a litle Encouragement for Dads! — Now I want to say this, the message today is Directed at our Dads, but this is NOT a time to tune out… The principals that we are going to be dealing with are essential in and from EVERY perspective of relationship.
Relationships Matter! Want to know how you are doing as a dad? Take a close look at your relationships, they are a window into the legacy you are leaving...
Your Spouse
Your Parents
Your Children
Your Parents
The Lord. This relationship is the ONE that can transform all of the other ones.
If you want to be a good dad, there is only ONE person who can make that happen, and I learned this from Smokey the bear; Only YOU can prevent forest fires.
What are 3 things that you and I can do to be better fathers?
1. With our Words.
Deuteronomy 6:6–7 (CSB)
These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
1. With our Words.
2. With our Time.
Deuteronomy 6:7–9 (CSB)
Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your city gates.
1. With our Words.
2. With our Time.
3. With our Love.
How do you spell Love? T.I.M.E
1. Love God
How much of your time are you devoting to God
Bible?
Prayer?
Listening for the Lord’s voice?
2. Love Others - and let THIS start at home!
are you Present when you are at home?
are you involved when you are at home?
Lyrics: I Want To Be Just Like You Phillips, Craig & Dean
Lord, I want to be just like You 'Cause he wants to be just like me I want to be a holy example For his innocent eyes to see Help me be a living Bible, Lord That my little boy can read I want to be just like You 'Cause he wants to be like me
You and don’t have to be a perfect dad… Or a perfect mom… or a perfect anything for that matter. Because you and I are NOT perfect, ONLY Jesus is. He will NEVER expect us to be something we can’t be… That is why He died for us...
I HOPE that is a relief and comforting!
But what He does expect is for us to daily live our lives in LOVE with him!
But do you want to know the BEST Gift that was ever given by a Father?
1 John 3:1 CSB
See what great love the Father has given us that we should be called God’s children—and we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it didn’t know him.
That God, our heavenly Father, lavished not only His love on us, but that we would be call HIS children!
