What is it?
What is it?
Many times we talk about the Gospel. We say things like “I believe in Jesus” or “ I’ve accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior.” Do we know the Scripture for those passages and what it even means to have Jesus as our savior though?
King James Version Chapter 10
9 That if thou shalt kconfess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt lbelieve in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom 10:9-10
So if the Gospel is connected to Jesus, what is it? The Gospel links our savior, Jesus, and salvation together:
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Rom 1:16
How many times are we fearful to say “I AM A CHRISTIAN?”
2 Tim 1:7 “God hath not given us a spirit of fear”
But of power
Love
Sound mind
For the Christians of Paul’s day, they were concerned with being killed for their identity.
Today we face fear in confessing our faith, job situations, standing up for what is right, and having our very identity stripped from us (military life)
God did not give us this spirit
Difference between natural fear and unnatural
The Gospel is what generates Salvation for us as Christians and it brings hope to our lives. We no longer have to fear death, but take peace in knowing that God has our life and the eternity afterwards in the palm of His hands.

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
1 Cor 15:1-4
Here we see three very components to the powerful story of the Gospel: 1. The Death 2. The Burial and 3. The Resurrection
Many times Christians talk about how Jesus died so that we may be saved, but he also was buried and rose again so that we may be saved. I find it interesting that when Mary Magdalene was at Jesus’ tomb, she wasn’t authorized to touch Jesus. He commanded that she not touch him for he had not ascended to the father.” What I would propose to you think about during our time together in study is why is that?
Things to think of:
The greek word for touch in this passage means to hold on to or cling on to. It is in the present. Additionally, we see the Spirit called a comforter later in the Bible.
The Gospel in its fullness points us to something more than just Jesus dying

Death - Repentance
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
Rom 6:1-2
Paul is preaching to Gentiles that had the Jewish traditional laws removed, but not the moral law or the law written upon the heart of those who would profess to be saved.
Repent == about face == complete change in direction
Grace does not reside within us when we continue in sin…light cannot fellowship with darkness (2 Cor 6:14)
Light being God’s Spirit and darkness being sin
Burial - Baptism
And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
Matthew 3:15
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Rom 6:3-4
Finish it out by tying everything together with Acts 2:38
