Love each other like yourself. - Ephesians 5:28-30
Love each other like yourself. - Ephesians 5:28-30
28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
Same way - Review, Christ loves the church.
love - agape.
own bodies -
He who loves his wife loves himself - if you are one.
29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body.
hated his own flesh - haha men vs women. Ecspecially men - You’re welcome. You eat when you want. You sleep when you want. etc...
Christ does the church - notice, it should say as Christ does, but reather its as Christ does the church. He treats the church as his own body.
He laid down his life and body for ours. Great reminder as we take communion.
Leave the past behind you. - Ephesians 5:31-32
Leave the past behind you. - Ephesians 5:31-32
31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”
Quote from Gen -
When we get married we leave past (everything) and start new with our wife.
If you got a kidney transplant, you wouldn’t want to try to put that old kidney back in.
become one flesh - this is dependent on first leaving. (They would still often live with the family. So it doesn't mean far separation).
One of the biggest problems in marriage - you marry into their family. Yet, your family takes precidence.
Some of you haven;t left old dreams, gf bfs.
In today’s culture the women have a harder time with this than the husband.
32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.
profound - You know its good, when even Paul says this is profound.
What makes it profound is that God gave us marriage to better understand love.
Every physical truth is a shadow of the greater spiritual truth.
Marriage was given to us in order that we understand love better.
Sacred marriage - marriage was suppose to make you holy instead of happy.
But a holy marriage ivetably causes happiness.
Understand their needs. - Ephesians 5:33
Understand their needs. - Ephesians 5:33
33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
Love and respect - Men crave respect. more than love. We need respect. This is the way that God has made us.
Women need love. I appreciate he made it simple. How do we love our wife? Like yourself.
You love yourself by taking care of every need.
Part of the reason why wives should submit and respect their husband is that is what your husband craves. His deepest desires is be respected. You have the opportunity to love him in that way.
