Fathers would you please be willing to stand and be recognized. Just briefly, I would like to speak to you.
Fathers I marvel at the near impossible job that we have been given.
We have been commanded to love another sinner more than our life, to die for her and love her as Christ loved the church. I am not sure that we can comprehend all that statement entails. Furthermore, one of our mandates is to take dominion of the earth and be fruitful, having kiddos.
These kiddos that we have been given are a gift. A tremendous gift that is unfathomable to me. To be entrusted with the protection of a life or several lives, the stewardship of them is astonishing because it doesn’t take long before we realize our complete inability to accomplish this job - we are not enough.
These blessed children are to be raised in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. To be taught about the consequences of sin and the joy of knowing our Savior - but again, this is an impossible job. We share these things but the result of the teaching does not depend upon us. These little people have their own mind and God has His own plan and yet He allows us to participate.
I think He does this so that we can learn to appreciate Him as Father more than we ever could if our only experience was reading from the word. There is something about learning through experience that we all understand is superior to theoretical knowledge. God has graciously allowed us to participate in this thing so that we can know Him better.
What a joy to know that our gracious heavenly Father loved us enough to teach us something that we could never realize unless we saw it first hand. The love that we have for our kiddos cannot be dissolved, can we understand it without experiencing it? The disappointment and heartache when sin is preferred to joyous relationship - we understand that when our kids turn to the excitement of the world’s poison and forsake fellowship with us. Can we know our Father as well as we do without knowing these things, maybe but I cannot understand what that would entail.
All this to say, I marvel at our impossible job and our God given strength to continue participating in it. May our Lord find us faithfully attending it by praying for and preaching truth to our kids for our entire lives. Thank you Fathers.
