Genesis 12:1-9
This morning I want you to think back to the day you entered into a covenant relationship with Jesus. Think about how you felt. Think about what you thought. Think about what you knew at the time. Did you realize the magnitude of the covenant you were entering into? Did you feel safe in that moment? Apron experienced all those things, and yet he comes to this place where God says leave your family your friends your way of life everything that you know and go where I tell you to go. Abram packs up his whole family all of his belongings and he just starts he didn’t have a destination he didn’t even know where he was going he knew that he only had to go. Do we do the same? What are some of the things that we can learn from Abraham‘s story? We have Abraham‘s whole story to read into glean from his wisdom. But we are living as Abraham lived embarking on the journey to freedom center. We don’t know what’s coming week. We don’t know steps that need to be taken to build freedom centre but when we started We are embarking on the same journey when we put our yes on the table to partner with God to build Freedom Centre we I have no idea what we were doing no clue how to even get to this point where were at.
When Abraham decided to leave and to follow God he must have kept this covenant promise in his mind. He must’ve sat with it. Meditated on it as he was preparing leave your native country your relatives in your fathers family and go to the land I will show you I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you and make you famous and you’ll be a blessing to others I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt all the families on earth will be blessed through you. These words must have been playing on repeat in Abrams mind as he got ready as he prepared as he told people what he was doing. As he spoke to his wife. As he spoke to his nephew. I’m sure he spoke these words over and over and over again. I’m sure he told them to anybody who would listen. He was focussed on God. God was asking him to leave the protection in the comfort of his home everything that was familiar to him. It’s not easy to do this. It’s not easy to leave the comfort of what we know for something that we don’t now but just like Abraham we have to keep our eyes fixed on The promises. We have to see that step by step God has been faithful. If God has been faithful to now why would he stop in the future. God is continually transforming our faith in his faithfulness. He tells us in his word that he delight in us. Because God delights in us it means that when we do follow after him when we take this covenant serious so does he. And there’s a few things that God says that I think is pertinent for us as we move forward with Freedom Centre he says I will I will make you into a great nation one God says he will do it. That means I’m not gonna do it you’re not gonna do it he’s gonna do it. But he wants you to be involved. He wants to work through you to be his hands and feet in the community in your homes in your workplaces in the drive-through is in the bank lines in the Walmart lines. Where ever we may find ourselves he wants us to be his hands and feet. God is leading us into something greater in this community. Not for our glory but for his. He says he will bless us and make us famous famous and we will be a blessing to others. God has placed us here to be a blessing not when we’re great but while we’re being made great.
Inverse seven the Lord appeared to Abram and said I will give this land to your descendants and Abram built an altar there and dedicated it to the Lord had appeared to him Abram was in conversation with the Lord because the Lord met him on the journey. We see that in this instance Abram was faithful and followed God God met him and blessed him because of his faithfulness. No I’m not saying that God is going to bless us every time we are obedient but he is never going to bless us if we’re disobedient. So we don’t do things for the blessing of God but they they are an expectation that throughout our life God is going to bless us. We may not know when. we may not know how. But according to our covenant relationship we know for certain God is going to bless us. Because of this truth we can expect it however it doesn’t happen each time we take a step of obedience.
I asked you earlier to think about the day you entered the covenant relationship and how you felt. I’m going to ask you to think about what is God asking you to do? What step of faith is he saying just trust me I got you? No think of the covenant that he made with you we see that he upheld his side of the covenant with a broom. Why would he not keep it with you and me as well? What would it look like for you to take that step a face in obedience to God?
Talk about Kens fear every time someone throws Miah up in the air, God catches us and will meet you each step of the way.
