Matthew 5:13-16
Matthew 5:13-16
English Standard Version Chapter 5
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
As we peruse this passage of scripture that is printed, we will find that Jesus has compiled His anointed and saving words into a powerful and prolific message known as the sermon on the mount. During the early part of His sermon on the mount, He taught the beatitudes where He gave a pronouncement to the crowds and religious leaders and He gave instruction to his disciples concerning the nature of life in the kingdom of heaven. So as Jesus continues on from teaching the beatitudes, He uses two metaphors using salt and light to describe His people and how they will impact the world with the kingdom life that they possess. We will also discover that salt and light are both valuable and very useful, however, both of them are quite different in the way they actually function. Being a representative is I promote Kingdom and not church. We have influence in the church but not in the Kingdom. We are not beneficial to the Kingdom if we are not functioning as salt and light.
