What are You Holding On To 5 2 Kings 4:1-7
We are again visitng the thought of what are you holding on to? God is not limited to only big things in fact he rarely uses them. It’s the small, the weak, the base, the few. We have seen it was the rod that Moses carried, the nail that Jaol had, the five smooth stones David grabbed, Elijah and his mantle.
We find a woman in despair. No money to pay her debts, nothing to get money from, it was hopeless she would loose her sons to pay her debts or was there another way? Have you ever faced a situation that seem insurmountable. Seemed hopeless? That is where this woman was. Elisha asks her a simple question that would change everything. I know I have been driving on this theme but I wish it would be as life changing for us as it was for this poor woman. What do you have in your house? What all do you have? I don’t have anything but a pot of oil. I can almost see Elisha smile, That is our answer. Go borrow some empty vessels from all of your neighbors, and I like how it says, Not a few. In other words get a whole bunch. When she did what little she could she left the rest to God. That is all we can do. What do we have in our house, what do we have in our hands?

6. I don’t want to limit it to these few what do you have. I want to not only encourage you but to motivate you to use it for God. There is no telling what God could accomplish for us right here with just us few if we will let him. SO lets get out our pot of oil. The little bit we have left and give it to God. Pour it out to not a few.
Evan Roberts, a 26 year old Welsh miner, left Bible school. Didn’t even finish, Bro. Roberts rented out a room and there he would pray and seek God for a revival. For a movement from God. He would stay in there for days, and was eventually thrown out because his landlady was afraid of him. He was just doing what he could. Just pouring out the oil he had in his house. He went to his pastor and told him he wanted to preach. The Pastor said okay. And one night after service he dismissed the congregation and announced that if anyone wanted to hear Evan Roberts to stay as he might say a few words. That service lasted until the wee hours of the morning as God fell and began a mighty move of God in Wales. It was told that Policeman were offering their services as singers and musicians as there was nothing else for them to do. Restitutions were the order of the day, people began to straighten out their lives. God was working. God was blessing. His services were not well programmed or organized. Often there would be more praying than anything. He was often heard to pray, “Bend me Lord” Just doing what he could. Some business began to go bankrupt though as no one was frequenting the bars and taverns anymore. Why a 26 year old boy prayed that God would move and didn’t have any better sense than to trust that he would.
Fill my cup Lord
Bring your vessels not a few.
