Called - Sutcliffe says he, "Sincerely renewed his covenant with God." .
a. Prayed - Learned the value of invoking and depending upon the blessing of God.
B. The language of the prayer shows the great faith that he prayed with
C. Prayer is still the way to enlargement and blessing. I have heard all my life of the men like, Praying Hyde, John Wesley, John T. Hatfield, G. C. Bevington, Evan Roberts, etc When you pick up their bio's and auto bio's you see what made them men of power, they knew how to pray, how to call on God, and they prayed.
1. It's so easy for us to get discouraged when it seems our prayers aren't getting anywhere and stop. These men would prayer even more.
When it's hardest to pray should be the time we pray the hardest.
One of our older ministers upon his death bed was weeping because the younger generation of ministers didn't know how to pray. That was almost a generation ago. I wonder what he would say now?
Jabez called or prayed to the God of Israel. He knew who to go to.
Oh That thou wouldest bless me indeed - When is the last time you have been blessed by God? Jabez doesn't pray just for a blessing but a blessing indeed.
1. I don't know if Jabez was talking about a shouting spell probabbly like a patriarchal blessing.
2. I am concerned about the younger people today who seem to have no idea what a blessing from the Lord is.
3. Notice he didn't ask for a paticular blessing just that the lord would bless him indeed
