Corrupt Earth

The New Revised Standard Version Noah Pleases God

These are the descendants of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation; Noah walked with God. And Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

When we look at this scripture what do you find important information? Noah was righteous, blameless, Walked with God. This term walked with God is important to look at because the other person we know about who walked with God was Enoch. We can look at the history of Enoch and find out that Enoch was the great-grandfather of Noah. The term walked with God is another way to say that they had a relationship. What does a relationship mean to you?

John 10:19-21 and beyond give us a picture of this walking with God. Jesus claims that He and the Father were one. Being one with someone means that your relationship is so close that you are one with each other. Enoch was one with God and the scripture tells us that God took him and he was no more. In the scripture looking at Noah the first thing we discover is that Noah was righteous, blameless, and walked with God. He had a relationship.

When we look at Noah we find that he had this relationship, which God calls us to have, but most of the created world were not in this boat. Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence.

God had a plan to destroy all He had created and He needed someone to be a part of that plan. This will be someone who is in relationship with Him. In other words someone who has been walking with God. In a corrupt world Noah emerges not merely as the best of a bad generation, but as a remarkably complete man of God.

God gives instructions as to how this is to be built and then he tells Noah what his (God’s) part would be in this story. For my part, I am going to bring a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die.

As I came to this church I was given the great insight vision of getting in the boat. It is time to remind all of you of this boat. What is the alternative to not getting into the boat? Death. What is the payment to get in the boat? What will it cost you? Relationship, walking with God. Becoming one with God. In verse Genesis 7:5 we learn that Noah did all he was commanded to do. So how do we know what God asks of us? We walk with him.
