Unfiltered Jesus - Last Sermon - I want to take away some real application - but first I want to show some awesome pictures.
Are you still seeing Jesus as the one on the left, or the one on the right?
16 weeks, are we different?
Do we understand what it truly means to be a follower, of Christ?
To truly Serve | and why? Do we serve out of Generosity or Wisdom?
Our Key Verse
And he said this plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”
And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
Which Peter? changed? - I want to explore this today
Remember where we are | Peter just declared christ - Something he truly understood later - When he GOT IT | My heart is we get it | Do you feel CALLED to SALVATION, SERVICE, SANCTIFICATION - What are you called for?

It’s Simple | I want to take away obligation to follow law

Word says come like little children
Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”
Like a little child - what does a child do when it comes out of the womb? Totally dependable | a bond that the baby doesn’t want to break | Peter didn’t get this right in the moment, but he does later | everything to a child is Simple we always talk about this verse like this | JEsus is also saying kids are obsessive, depended, that we are to be dependent, on him

Although simple, and done - like a child who comes to parent for love, they can’t earn it, they get it | We don’t earn it | Nothing you can do to earn salvation | Don’t deserve it | You can’t become righteious on your own | Jesus makes you righteous, whole forgiven.
No obligation to live the way god is asked you but i challenge you not to | Once you have felt htat love, you will have no other reaction, once you understand |
Serving for believers is not righteous or generous = Wisdom
It’s wisdom that you understand that God’s Son come down to earth to be the ultimate example of a servant and how God wants us to live our lives- it’s wisdom to know how to serve God. It’s understanding of the scripture. It’s wisdom and it’s reaction.

The way you love will be shown in how you react | Willing to step into calling | to react - to lay it down. I want to talk about calling.
Calling in the new testament
Kaleo - to call. Klesis - Calling. Kletos - Called. Paraklete - comforter. Parakletos - Advocate; Intercessor. Ekklesia - Assembly of believers, called out ones
Think about this | do you understand you have been called? You have been SET APART, CHOSEN for a PURPOSE BY GOD, CALLED, Picked by GOD | It puts a bit more weight on your day to day
Realise we are called by God
But…Stop thinking about what you are called to…do, | BE | Jesus could only DO, because of who he WAS. Lamb,servant etc.
WHO AM I CALLED TO BECOME
Calling isn’t about who you are in the future, it’s about your faithfullness to Jesus now.
Little verse in colossians
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
called to a ‘who’ before a ‘do’
who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,

God makes us GREAT | Jesus responds:
And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Jesus is saying: WHO more important than WHERE you are
Then we continue to Mark 11 - Disciples with Jesus - Bout to ride into Jeruselem | Have all teaching | Given up everything | ready for triumphal entry
Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples
Disciples thinking “Here we go...”
jesus says:
and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it.
Their big assignemnt: Fetch me a donkey
“sorry jesus, think I mis heard”
God wants to make something very clear:
The Size of your assignment never….and I want to say NEVER determines the significance of your impact
We know early christians got it acts 2:42, what was their first thing: DEVOTED to what? Apostles teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayer
They where HUNGRY for the word | Loving Each Other | Hospitable | SPiritual | This was the WHO and WHAT they did followed
What’s our reaction? Are we Peter wondering who Jesus is? Or do we have wisdom to step into our calling and become the WHO GOD ASKS US TO BE.
So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.
As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Peters commentary on “Come like a little child” - Infaants with milk | We are to be built up | I am her eto equip | We are to take Action | Be Transformed | God is here to convict, encourage, challenge. We are to react | should be growing | Paul saus to wein off the milk and onto solids | Not easy
next 4 weeks visit isaiah | Action packed | Dive deeper into what it meant for jesus to be the servant |
Servant of Justice, CHOOSING, Servant of Obedience, Suffering.
How did they play out and play out in our lives.
The rest of the year is all about Jesus:
from there we will go to Hebrews: What does it mean to FIX OUR eyes on JESUS and how do we do that in our every day life with everything going on?
then we have 9 weeks of Hot Topics - what does Jesus say about End Times, Hell, Babies going to hell, money, everything that’s never preached in Church, let’s go there because it’s in the Word, and the Wordi s good.
Then we go to collossions and we look at “The supremacy of the Son of God” - for 4 weeks we are going to go into a deep dive of 9 verses.
then, to finishe the year off, we are going to look at the big story of Jesus, Jesus throughout the old testament, all the way to his birth leading up to Christmas.

We are to deny ourselves and follow Jesus = deny who we were, step into who God calls us we ARE - It’s up to you | You have enemy shouting lies | You’re not good enough, not qualified, you have lied, you have gossipped, character is flawed, sinner, fall short, nothing in this wolrd you can do to earn it, well…that’s right but God loved YOU so much he did it FOR YOU.
Price been paid, deserved wrath, judgement, we where guilty, God poured that wrath out on his son, Jesus, so that we could be ......free - What is your reaction.
