INTRO
Good morning, friends, we’re so glad you have tuned in to hear God’s Precepts and Promises this morning brought to you by the Rome Church of Christ.
We’re examining Christianity systematically--taking all the Bible has to say on a subject and putting it together as best as possible. Letting the Bible speak
We are talking about the Biblical doctrine of man. David asked, “What is man?” (Ps 8:4). We want to try to answer that question today.
Today we are continuing to think about what it means to be made in the image of God (Gen 1:26)
Grudem: Man being made in the image of God “means that man is like God and represents God.”
We have seen that to be made in the image of God is to be:
a thinking, mental being
spiritual being
moral being
relational being
Consider 3 more aspect: dominion, male and female, freedom
DISCUSSION

To be made in His image is to have dominion

Gen 1:26
Ps 8:5-8
We see man’s dominion everywhere—zoo, a hunter, animals trained
People feel close to God while doing these activities: is it not because they are exercising their divinely given authority?

To be made in His image is to be male and female

Both made in the image of God (Gen 1:27; 5:1-2)
B/c both in the image of God—men and women are equal (Gal 3:27)
God gave men and women different roles
Men—leaders in the home (Eph 5:23, 25), worship (1 Tim 2:8; 1 Cor 14:34)
Women—keepers in the home; women are not to lead worship (1 Cor 14:34; 1 Tim 2:11-14)
Submission to a role was not above Christ; neither should it be for us (1 Cor 11:3)
Bible is not oppressive toward women but exalts them (Pro 31:10, 28-30; 1 Pet 3:7)
Much confusion over gender and sexuality today.
Gender
Facebook at one gave people the choice between 58 gender identities.
But God made them male and female.
Marriage
Love is love. You can marry anything or anyone you want.
Marriage is one man and one woman for life. Gen 2:24-25

Q: I disagree with homosexuality, but I’m confused about the slogan, “Love is love.” If two people love each other, doesn’t God want them to be happy.
A: God wants us to be happy, but happiness comes through holy living. Rev 20:6. The one wins the victory is both happy and holy. Much propaganda has been shoved down this country’s proverbial throat. This slogan is just one item. How do we define love? Love, agape, is desiring what is best for another. What is best for another is holiness not engaging in sexual deviancy and promiscuity.

To be made in His image is to be a free being.

God freely chose to create (Gen 1:26)
Man is free to choose
Between good and evil (Dt 11:26-28; 30:19)
to serve God (Josh 24:15)
EXHORTATION
Next week: think about the soul.
Until then, we encourage you to hear His precepts and trust Him promises.
