Introduction

Ephesians 6:14 KJV
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Loins are the muscles on either side of the back bone between the ribs and hips. This belt supports the lower back and enables the soldier to stand and fight against the enemy.
How does the truth enable us to stand?
Ephesians 6:14 KJV
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Truth gives confidence to stand

Ephesians 6:13 (KJV)
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and ||having done all, to stand.

Atheism: the belief that there is no God.

Agnosticism: the belief that the existence and nature of God is unknown or unknowable

Many claim that there are no moral absolutes and there is no absolute truth. They claim that everything is relative. However, this is very faulty thinking. You see, there are some things that are true regardless of the variables - It is true for everyone everywhere, at all times.
Truth is not just what works. Often, people see the results and formulate a workable narrative and assume that is truth.

A prosecutor who links together “evidence” (even circumstantial) to make his case - although he may have the wrong suspect.
We have entered into a time in history (unlike any other) when absolutes are called relative and truth is defied in favor of ones desire.
Granted, there are subjective truths. These are truths that are determined by the opinions of the individual.
Some say cantaloupe is delicious. Those who are right understand that cantaloupe belongs in the trash next to Dunkin Donuts so called coffee. That is a truth we all can determine for ourselves.
However, there are some truths that are not dependent upon the individual. These truths are true whether or not we believe them. These are absolutes.
Take math for instance. What is 2+2?
4
That is pretty neat! When I was in school, I was taught that 2+2=4, and all these years later, it is the same. What about on September 23, 2078? What will 2+2 be on that day?
4
What if it is rainy?
What if people are mad?
What if there is an earthquake?
What if I have not had breakfast?
What if you are tired?
You see, math does not change based upon variables. It is the same regardless of the circumstances. Sadly, there are many who are accepting as accurate what others feel the answer should be. How sad and irresponsible!
What if I drop a ring into a pot of boiling soup and I feel like I should be able to reach in and retrieve the ring without getting burnt? If I put my hand into the soup, I will realize very quickly that if I am led in my belief by my feelings, my feelings are going to get hurt!
Another view of truth is that whatever feels good must be true. Therefore, if something feels bad or makes you uncomfortable, it must be wrong and bad.
However, bad news can be true. Truth can be hard to hear or receive, but that does not mean it is not truth. If your child makes poor grades in school. His/her report card would reflect those grades. Poor grades are unpleasant to see and realize, but if the student says, “I don’t believe I am failing this class,” that does not mean they are not failing. Also, poor grades on the report card are not an indicator that the teacher has it our for your sweet little BooBoo.
There is absolute truth. And it is vital that we recognize it for what it is and that we believe it.

Can we know the truth?

Ephesians 6:14 KJV
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Scripture tells us that as believers, our armor is held together and supported by truth. We understand that our victory is dependent upon the validity of our faith.
So how can we be girded with truth?
How can we even know the truth at all?
Look at the evidence!
When praying to the Father in the Garden of Gethsemane on the night before He was crucified, Jesus said,
John 17:17 AV 1873
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
If we are going to learn truth, as believers in Jesus Christ, we start with the Bible.
2 Timothy 2:15 AV 1873
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
It is important that we study to know and communicate the Bible in the way God intended and meant it.
Often we have a tendency to interpret the bible in a way that fits our own narrative. That is wrong!
Sometimes, people will see parallels with different people and or themes and then build a belief system around their own interpretation. DANGEROUS!
However, an inaccurate interpretation of the Bible does not negate the accuracy of the Word of God.
The accuracy of the Bible has been confirmed repeatedly throughout history.
Historically, geographically, archaeologically, and in many other ways, the details of Scripture have been validated. No other book can claim this level of credibility! The New Testament alone has over 5,000 pieces of manuscripts from which the Bible has been translated and verified. That is far more than the ancient writings of philosophers like Aristotle, yet his works are not questioned.
Events, cities, timelines, rulers, and other individuals and/or people groups that are mentioned in the Bible have been disputed by skeptics. Yet after a little more research, sometimes by literally digging, these were discovered and the Scriptures were once again proven to be true.
A few years ago, I read about a bit of a humorous discovery. Archaeologists reported finding what appeared to be an ancient outhouse in an area known to have been used at one time by religious groups as a place of worship known in the Bible as high places. Now why would there be such a thing in a highly regarded place? Because in 2 Kings 10 we are told in verse 27 that Jehu destroyed the high places and cut down the groves, destroying the altars of Ba’al. Then he built outhouses - or draught houses as the King James puts it. All indications seemed to show that this outhouse was not used, but it was mainly symbolic to Israel and Judah. You can connect the dots!
Many have set forth in an effort to disprove the Bible. However, in the process, many of these have realized that Jesus is Who He claimed to be, the Bible is in fact the very Word of God.
In his book The Case for Christ, Lee Strobel tells of his journey as an investigative journalist. He implemented all of his skills to prove the Bible false and Jesus a fraud.
J. Warner Wallace was a cold case detective in Torrance, CA. He decided to use his knowledge and skills for researching a cold case to prove the Bible is not true.
Both of these men put the evidence through intense scrutiny, and they both came to the conclusion that Jesus is in fact Who He claimed to be. They discovered that the Bible is accurate. Jesus is the Messiah, the Savior of the world!
When you come to understand that the Bible is true, you begin to experience a change in your thought processes and beliefs. You will see so many questions answered just because you believe that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life!
If the Bible is true, we ought to believe It.
If we believe It, we should put our trust in Jesus.
If we believe in Jesus, He will save us.
Having been saved, realizing the implications of Truth, we have the confidence and courage to stand.

Truth gives Courage to Fight the Enemy

John 16:33 AV 1873
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
1 John 4:4 AV 1873
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Truth gives Freedom

John 8:32 AV 1873
and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 14:6 AV 1873
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 8:36 AV 1873
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
