Scripture Reading Daniel 3:14-18
Opening statement:
Tomorrow we will be celebrating the 245 Anniversary from when the declaration of independence was signed. The declaration of independence was written because Americans wanted freedom from England
All men are created equal
our rights come from God
Every individual has the God given right to live to be free and to own property
the purpose of Government is to protect God given rights.
Freedom is something we enjoy today, but for these three Hebrew boys, they had lost their freedom. To king Nebuchadnezzar, the King of Babylon.
Now they were slaves in a foreign land their new mission was to serve the King whenever the king says jump, they ask how high?
one would think that the King would treat these boys with favor, one would think that the king would treat these boys with kindness. because not too long ago in Daniel chapter 2 we see Daniel interpreting the dream that he had. The king was so happy that the dream which he forgotten was revealed to him along with its interpretation that he declared that there is not a God like Daniels God. He even went a little further to say that Daniel’s God is the God of God, and King of Kings. But now in chapter 3 we see the King erecting an image of pure gold to himself. and he ensured that it was massive 90 feet tall and 9 feet wide. and he placed it on the plane of dura so that you could see it from far away.
and then any body who was somebody was invited to his worship session. and if you were not invited you were a no body. he invites all the potentates, powerful people with their prestigious positions.
he instructs all who were invited that at the sound of the instruments that they should bow down and worship this image. he gives them an ultimatum as a motivation for worship meaning if they did not they would be thrown into a fiery furnace. He gives them an ultimatum either bow or burn. so the motivation for worship was fear.
For king Nebuchadnezzar to declare that there is a King out there that is greater than himself is interesting interesting because
Notes: The greatest is the one where a sinner receives freedom from sin.
the basic message of the declaration of independence we will acknowledge the creator above all earthly kings. it says that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable writes, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men deriving thier just powers, from the consent of the governed
