Yearning for closeness with God
Psalm 63:1-8
David is desperate for God. How often do we want to be close with God as much as we want to breath? How often do we want to be close with God as much as we want to eat? How much do we want to be close to God more than we want (insert whatever is a temptation for you here)?
Psalm 27:5-14
Our moments of worship are opportunities to proclaim that God is already drawing NEAR to us. God is already not hiding his face from us. When we write, and sing, and pray about that we put into the physical world a quality of God’s nature. We were designed to be near to God. Even and especially when our human relationships fail. Luke 22:14-23
This account is quite a bit different than the others. He talks about dividing the pressence of the bread among the others. It mentions how physically close Jesus is to his friends. He “eagerly desired to eat this passover” (v 15 nrsv) with them. There is a sense of urgency in which God is searching actively for a body to live in. And you are who God has found. Commune has a sense of becoming one with God. And yet something really interesting happens at the end of this passage not only are they made one with God, but when Christ is one with the disciples, he is immediately able to identify the one that is not on board with the plan.
