blessed is the man - 26 x’s in Psa. The word does not
mean “happy” in the way we use it, because happiness often depends on external
circumstances. This is describing a person who is approved of God (and because
of that approval has an inner peace and contentment).
THOSE WHO CAREFULLY CHOOSE THEIR ASSOCIATES (1:1).
THOSE WHO TAKE REFUGE IN THE LORD (2:12; 34:8; 40:4; 85:5,12).
THE NATION WHOSE GOD IS THE LORD (33:12; 144:15).
THOSE WHO ARE CONSIDERATE OF THE POOR / OPPRESSED (41:1).
THE JUST AND THE RIGHTEOUS (106:3).
THE ONE WHO FEARS THE LORD (112:1; 128:1-5).
THE ONE WHO WALKS BLAMELESSLY - WITH INTEGRITY (119:1,2).
does not walk in the counsel of the wicked - does not listen or head the advice of the wicked. I think this is really important. often times we seek the advice of worldly people, books, professors, TV personalities, dear Abby, etc. Everybody has an opinion on how they think everyone should live. a person of God chooses his counselors wisely. too often it is the blind leading the blind Mt. 15:14. It’s funny to me that a lot of people seek counsel from their peers, why would i want someone like me to lay down the standard of morality. What did the counsel of of Jeroboams peers bring about (1 Kings 12)?
does not stand in the path of sinners - chooses very carefully who and what he spend his time with.
1 Thessalonians 5:22 NASB95
abstain from every form of evil.
Psalm 17:4 NASB95
As for the deeds of men, by the word of Your lips I have kept from the paths of the violent.
where do you go? who do you associate with? Are you putting yourself in a place or with people that help you live for Jesus everyday. I think sometimes we wonder why we always feel spiritually drained or we wonder why our faith grows cold or we teeter totter between faithful and faithlessness. Be careful that you are not putting yourself in the path of sinners.
does not sit in the seat of scoffers - one who belittles the work of others.
there are a lot of side seat drivers in the church. Everyone thinks they could do better or it should have done that way or why did they have to do it that. My question where is their expertise when its time to get the work done. It’s very easy to criticize the work and even mistakes of others but another thing entirely to get out and actually do something ourselves. A scoffer is good for nothing. they don’t add anything to society, they don’t help society in any way, in fact they cause more harm to society and the way of the cross. A scoffer does not heed the words of
Ephesians 4:29 NASB95
Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord - delight - finding deep rooted pleasure or contentment in, a genuine source of satisfaction in. Meditate on the words of Ps. 119 this week and then decide whether or not you feel the same way he does about God’s Law. What the blessed man delights in is God’s law not man’s . he realizes that Gods law is form the eternal one and deserves our full attention.
James 1:19 NASB95
This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger;
in his law he meditates day and night - does not just give lip service to God’s word word thinks upon it often. It’s not an after thought. It’s not something he turns to every once in a while. He doesn’t just look to find the answer he wants. It’s on his heart and mind constantly. He cannot live with out it.
Are you one who does not:
walk in the counsel of the wicked
stand in the path of sinners
seat in the seat of scoffers
Are you one who:
delights in the law of the Lord
meditates on the law of the Lord day and night
HOW WILL YOU BE BLESSED?
like a tree firmly planted - healthy, stable. not easily blown over during the storms of life
Mt. 7:24-25
like a tree planted-by streams of water. It’s strong, it receives the life giving nourishment to survive and thrive in life. In John jesus is called the water of life. Life flows from jesus and we make sure we planted in the life giving stream of jesus. You continue to take in the word of God daily and you will find the strength.
because you firmly planted by streams of water you yield fruit. you will be productive. you will make an impact on the generations that follow you. you gain the fruit of the spirit Gal. 5:22. what world wouldn’t be better with people filled with the fruit of the spirit. Note what Jesus says concerning bearing fruit in Mt. 7:15-23
trees leaves will not wither - you will be spiritually healthy. free from infection and disease. will be able to produce good fruit. and will not be sick with sin
will prosper - doesn’t been he wont have any failures - but he will be able to look back on his life and realize that he was blessed, and he was blessed to do great things for the Lord, and he made a difference with his life.
THE WICKED:
are not so - wicked 77 x’s a lifestyle that continually resist the will of God. don’t have the benefits that the strong man has.
the wicked are like dry leaves with no substance, easily blown and tossed away. have no true value, burned up
will stand in judgment - not is a sound relationship with Jesus
Rev. 6:15-17
Revelation 6:15–17 NASB95
Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; and they said to the mountains and to the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”
2 Cor. 5:10
2 Corinthians 5:10 NASB95
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
Rev. 20:11-15
Revelation 20:11–15 NASB95
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous
2 Pet. 3:13
2 Peter 3:13 NASB95
But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

The Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble, And He knows those who take refuge in Him.

then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment,
2 Tim. 2:19
2 Timothy 2:19 NASB95
Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.”
