Proposition: True gain is not in wealth, but in godliness.

Ten destructive results of the idol of wealth
Solomon was extremely wealthy
The Remedy for Wealth
See it as a gift from a Good Giver
Then you will be free from it’s power
the only way to ministry to our culture is to be free from its idols.
Now do we get contentment?
The Gospel — rich in Christ
The Consummation — we will inherit the earth — riches to come.
Application:
Don’t give into materialism
Randy Alcorn — the only cure is to give it away
You can’t take it with you but you can pass it on ahead.
Where do you need to repent of idolatry/materialism/pursuit outside of God?
Where can you be generous and pay it forward?
Where can you enjoy life now?

The pursuit of wealth in our country is perhaps the strongest idol we have.
Jesus himself said “you cannot serve two masters, you cannot serve both God and money”
Yet wealth itself is not bad.
We’ll see that God gives some people wealth
it has everything to do with where are hearts are.

What is good? Godly contentment
What is not good?
Wealth with no ability to enjoy it
There is a better focus in this life.
Gospel:
In Christ we have everything.
In christ we will inherit the whole earth
Application
Seek the Kingdom
Wealth — you can’t take it with you, but you can pass it along.
Find contentment now.
Can you really enjoy life now? Is this possible?
Ecc says it is. But it is not something we can achieve. no amount of wealth — perhaps the most powerful idol — can give us it.
True riches come only from God.
