Father’s Day – Personal Narratives from the Bible and from the floor.
Introduction:
· Biblical Narratives w/ fathers
o Abraham to Isaac to Jacob to the 12 sons – Genesis
§ Told them of the promises
o Eli w/ his son Hophni and Phinehas – 1 Samuel
§ Of a father who failed to hold his sons accountable unto to God
o David w/ Solomon
§ Instructions on how to live and to lead
§ TURN and READ 1 Kings 2:1-4
o Solomon w/ his son – Proverbs, first 7 chapters
§ Instructions on how to live
§ Every father should read, every mother more so, that she might have insight into the heart of men
o The Prodigal – Luke 15:11-32
§ Of a father’s love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness
o Paul to Timothy
§ Our responsibility to those we lead to the Lord is one of Fatherhood
§ How to live
o God the Father to Jesus, “in whom I am well pleased”
§ Ownership – this is my Son
· What is your story and are you willing to share it?
o Some had great fathers / others had terrible fathers. I want to hear from those of you that might speak well of you father.
Message:
· The Model Prayer, as given by Jesus – recorded in Luke 11, as well as Matthew 6.
o Say “Our Father” – Luke 11:2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
o The why – Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself… Ephesians 1:5a.
God, as the ultimate Father: Romans 5:1-10
· Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Jesus said to call Him Father for, so He is. He loved us enough to put on the flesh of mand, to suffer, and to die for us. In dying, He demonstrated that Fatherly love.
