We give out of our love. Spiritual benefits came at a cost. The Gentiles were repaying the Jews for the gift of unity in Christ.

Gentiles Offering to the Jews

Spiritual Obligation

Christian Standard Bible (Romans 15:27)
Yes, they were pleased, and indeed are indebted to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual benefits, then they are obligated to minister to them in material needs.
