House on the Rock

Intro: Review
Week 1:Be attitudes
Blessed are the meet. All about the attitudes we begin to instill in to our lives and that of our children.
Week 2: Jot and Tittle, The whole word is still active. including some of the Law, Jesus said, Love God and Love others.
Yeshua tells us that he did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill.
Week 3: Acts of Righteousness: Set the moral law way above and shows us the need for God’s grace
Unless our righteousness exceeds that of the Pharisee who were great at keeping the law. Yeshua takes us to a whole nether level.
Last Sunday: Going the Extra Mile, Helping our child see that one of the most important elements of being a believer is that of acts of kindness, generosity, showing love. The Golden rule.
Today we are going to wrap up everything. I want to end where we actually started, in dealing with the foundation. Its where Yeshua wraps up the His instructions to the disciples.
Matthew 7:21–23 (NKJV)
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’
And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
Having a house on the Rock means building your family, not just parenting but your marriage, your life on the principles that we have been talking about over the past several weeks.
Deuteronomy 6:6–7 (NKJV)
“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.
You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
This is the our Key passage over the past several weeks. Knowing that as a family setting up Jesus as the center is not just about going to church or teaching them to be nice and play nice with others. but setting God our Father at the center of our life,in everything is truly what this passage is about. Our job as Parents:
Teach diligently to our children God’s words, which first and foremost shall be in our hearts.
Most when told this will not be happy, because it goes against modern theology. That is, by giving your life to Christ saying your prayer, you no longer have to obey God’s commands, because that would be legalism. However, this is a problem. Jesus Himself said: Those who love me, obey me.
We all know that life is filled with storms, no matter what people tell us, Jesus Himself told his disciples that in this world you will have tribulations ( Storms) but for us to take heart, He overcame the world.
Giving them a foundation that will at last the storms they face in this world, is not just a good idea, its necessary for them to grow in to the man or women God has created them to be.
The message of Yeshua was not one of refined theology or hair-splitting over doctrine. He called for genuine repentance characterized by good works, obedience to God’s commandments, and the training of discipleship. He called His disciples to practice a standard of righteousness that exceeded even that of the other religious leaders of their day.
How does this apply to Parenting? Easy.
We started out this message series, dealing with the importance of the foundations you are laying. That as Believer in Christ. You and I have the amazing weight of teaching our children and guiding them into obedience to God’s word above that of this world. But I think, if we could see it differently, not just that we are raising Young men and Young women. But that we are:

Creating disciples of Christ.

Parenting Your sons and daughters towards Christ begins with the foundation. You are the main disciple of your children lives. Not the Pastor, Not the schools, not your neighbor and not tv, xbox.
At the earliest moment of understanding, your children need to see and learn the teachings of Yeshua. How is that possible. By the observance of Mom and Dad.
We teach what we know, but produce who we are.
The great commission I truly believe could be applied to us as Parents:
Look at what Yeshua tells His 12:
Matthew 28:18–20 (NKJV)
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
You and I have the heavy assignment, so its up to us to learn.
There are 4 non negotiable to being a disciple of Christ:
Go into the World
Make disciples
Immerse/Baptize
Teaching them.
The word “Teach them” to observe all things (ie…Take heed to....)
We must become learners of God’s path over all else. Salvation is only the beginning of the journey we are called on, Its growing in our faith, learning the ways and instructions of Christ that make the difference.
Always learning, always growing. Mom and DAD are to be students of Yeshua!
Luke 6:46–49 (NKJV)
“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?
Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like:
He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat violently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.
But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat violently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”
You and I are building a house or rather we are building a home, but what is the foundation of your home?

Pointing them towards God’s word

James 1:22–25 (NKJV)
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;
for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
James helps us to see what Yeshua is saying. Don’t just hear it. do it. Because when you do, you will be blessed in all that you do.
All throughout the bible, being a doer is connected to a blessing, favor and prosperity.
WE have become hearer only and not actual doers?
Could this be the element that is missing from many homes that are struggling.
Psalm 1:1–3 (NKJV)
Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
We have asked several times. We all want to be blessed, we throw that word around to means something completely different than what it means.
To be spoken well of. To have favor (God’s)
To live and experience all that our Father has for us, is about action. Love is action. This is the heart of what Jesus teaches. If you love me, then do. I love my wife, Not just by hearing, but by doing for her.
Jesus has taken this message to teach some very hard and difficult standards. Showing and teaching us what being a disciple is really all about. He tells us many will come to him, declare allegiance to him, but not doing what He taught.
We all have choices.
We have before us choices, we can continue down the path we are currently on, or lift up the mantels of discipleship, and see our roll as mom and dad. Show them that with out Yeshua, they will miss the life they truly created to live.
Matthew 6:31–34 (NKJV)
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
The decision to follow Christ and all he taught in today's culture will be tough, not just in the world, but sometimes even in church, where even those who are believers are not willing to give up this world, in exchange for what their Heavenly Father has for them. It is a tough choice.....But
Philippians 3:7–9 (NKJV)
But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.
Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ
and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;

Here are a few suggestions from me to help keep your Children focused and on the right path:

Build your faith into everyday moments. Take advantage of life and make them teachable moments that point to the power of Jesus. Use the time for open conversation.
Bring every matter back to the condition of your child’s heart. Disobedience? Unkind words? Poor choices? They are all matters of the heart. It’s not simply about consequences. Get to the matter of the heart.
Everything Jesus did with the law, was change it to heart issues. Teach your children that whatis in their heart will come out.
Teach them to protect their hearts.
Proverbs 4:23 (CJB)
Above everything else, guard your heart; for it is the source of life’s consequences.
Model a life of relationship with Christ. You cannot teach what you yourself do not model. Your life must be a living testimony.
Titus 2:6–8 (NKJV)
Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded,
in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,
sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.
Help them to put God at the center of all they do, whether its the friends they choose, sports they play, Help them to put the instructions into real life.
Colossians 3:17 (NKJV)
And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
