Introduction
Greetings…
We have been studying through the theme “Fundamentals” i.e., the pure spiritual milk that leads to maturity otherwise known as salvation.
2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation—
Specifically, we have been studying the biblical home.
Last week, we examined what a biblical wife is.
She is a righteous wife after the order of 1 Timothy 3:11 & Titus 2:4-5.
Today, we are going to focus our attention now on “Biblical Husbands.”
As you and I know the home is under attack by those that would like to see it dismantled.
In fact, the idea of a husband, wife, and children as a family, is now considered racists and/or bigoted by many of our countries supposed “top colleges” and “media outlets.”
However, the reason most marriages, between husbands and wives, fail is a lack of communication.
A mature-looking lady had an appointment with a marriage counselor, and told him flat out: “I would like to divorce my husband.” To this, the counselor replied, “Well, do you have any grounds?” She answered, “Why yes. We have almost an acre.” The puzzled counselor asked her, “You don't understand. What I want to know is do you and your husband have a grudge?” The lady answered, “Actually, we don't, but we do have a nice carport.” At this, the counselor shook his head and said, “Ma'am, I'm sorry, but I just don't see any reason why you should divorce your husband.” The lady looked at the counselor and said to him, “It's just that the man can't carry on an intelligent conversation.”
The other reason marriages fail is a lack of understanding the biblical roles of husbands and wives.
A [husband] who often helped his wife with the housework finally protested when she demanded that he help wash the dishes. “This isn't a man's job," he said. "Yes it is," she said. "Look up 2 Kings 21:13.” This is what he read, “...and I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a dish, wiping it, and turning it upside down.”
Hopefully today this lesson can husbands today make the best use of their time with their families.
A biblical husband is…
A Righteous Husband
A Righteous Husband
He Leads His Wife.
He Leads His Wife.
Husbands are to be the leaders of the home not followers of their wives and/or kids.
4 He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive,
One who does not lead his home is one that scatters his family and drives them away from God.
2 Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning the shepherds who care for my people: “You have scattered my flock and have driven them away, and you have not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for your evil deeds, declares the Lord.
15 And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
He Teaches His Wife.
He Teaches His Wife.
There is a disturbing idea concerning teaching that has become apparent both in the church and outside the church.
That idea is that teaching is almost irrelevant because “actions” are better than “words.”
The old quote, “I’d rather see a sermon than hear one any day” is not biblical.
13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
Paul could have easily said, “Listen all you have to do is be an example to those around you and they will obey the gospel” but he didn’t.
He said there is no way for those “outside of Christ” to obey the gospel without being preached to i.e., taught the gospel.
Husbands, if you are neglecting to study God’s word with your wife you are failing to be a biblical husband.
2 and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.
Don’t get me wrong, be living the word is important but it is not “more important” than studying.
It is as important but not more important.
He Encourages His Wife.
He Encourages His Wife.
There is no doubt that every Christian needs encouragement in this old sinful world.
Paul would write to the church in Thessalonica, in 1 Thessalonians 3:2…
2 and sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God, and our fellow laborer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith,
If every Christian needs encouragement so to do our wives, husbands.
He Reproves & Rebukes His Wife.
He Reproves & Rebukes His Wife.
Again, every Christian needs reproving and rebuking because we are not sinless.
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
If every Christian needs, so too will our wives when we notice they sin.
Sinned came into the world through Adam not Eve.
12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—
How, because Adam was not deceived even though he was right there watching Eve get deceived.
He could have rebuked her and helped her see her error but he wanted to eat of the forbidden fruit as well so he “let her sin” so he too could sin and blame her for it.
He Strives For Excellence With His Wife.
He Strives For Excellence With His Wife.
A husband that leads his home will indeed strive for excellence as a husband, where warranted father.
This means he will “lead by example” in his home.
1 Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
Summary
Summary
Husbands have a grave responsibility to be righteous so as to be the biblical husband their wife needs.
Husbands, you cannot be what your wife needs “in every way” without being a biblical husband.
Husbands must not just be righteous but they must…
Love Their Wives
Love Their Wives
Love As Christ Loves The Church.
Love As Christ Loves The Church.
In Ephesians 5:25-33 we read a list of expectations God has for husbands loving their wives.
25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.
28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body.
31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

From this passage we find that…
Husbands ought to be willing to give their life for their wife.
14 And I looked and arose and said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.”
Husband ought to see their wives as the splendor of their life and honor them as such.
7 Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
Husbands ought to care for their wives as well as or better than their own bodies.
This means they better be sweet and tender to them.
19 Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.
Husbands ought to place their wive below God only!!!
3 But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
Summary
Summary
It truly is as simply as saying, “Husbands love your wives as Christ loves the church.”
Conclusion
Conclusion
So, husbands be that which the compound word describes “House-bands” or the hone that holds the home together through your righteousness and love for your wife and family.
Remember the words of Solomon in Ecclesiastes 9:9…
9 Enjoy life with the wife whom you love, all the days of your vain life that he has given you under the sun, because that is your portion in life and in your toil at which you toil under the sun.
Invitation
1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,
32 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
