In Gensis right near the beginning fo the bible, Abraham was made some promises by God.

Who remmebers or knows what they were?

Decesndants

Blessings

Abraham died before all those promises came true, but it doesn’t mean they were not true.

We’re going to learn in our new series that

People make many plans, but only the Lord's plans

work forever. Proverbs 19:21

Infact that’s a memeory verse we’ll learn most weeks.

The story over the next few weeks looks at the life of Jacob.

It’s a bit of a messy story - Jacob doesn’t alwasy behave well,

so, we’re going to act out the story so we understand it.

Use drama sheet to explain characters and then act out story with props.

Jacob did some unkind and wrong things.

He lied and cheated to get his brothers inheritance and blessing from Issac.

How do you feel when you don’t get what you want?

How do you feel when you have done something wrong?

Hopefully you said you feel bad, or sorry when you have done something wrong.

You might even think that your mum or dad or God will be cross with you.

In our bible ready, Jacob lied to his dad, and cheated his brother becasue he wanted to be most important.

It’s not very good behaviour. And Jacob wasn’t trusting God, becasue in

Genesis 25:23 NIV

The Lord said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.”

God had already rpomised that Jacob would be the next ruler for God’s people.

YOu see, when we do things wrong, it’s called sin.

And God doesn’t like our sin.

But, it never stops God’s plans, or his love for us if we say sorry to him.

So, we should always try to obey God, but when we don’t we shoudl say sorry to Him and those we upset,

And we don’t need to worry that god’s plans have been messed up!

He will still keep all the pormises he made to Abraham and he will still keep his pormises to forgive us and love us if we repent, say sorry to him.

Who knows what great promise God made to us all about ebing forgiven?

Yes - Jesus would die/take our punnishement.

So when we do things wrong - it doesn’t stop God loving and saving us.

What should we do when we are tempted to lie or cheat?

How does Jesus save us when we get things wrong?

Activity - write something on the postit note that you have done wrong. Perhaps a lie or when you cheated to get your own way like Jacob.

Bring it to front and stick on paper - I draw round the whole lot - God’s plans are bigger than all our plans and sins. We can trust him to forgive us.
