Psalm 22:19-31

A turning point in the Psalm
Celebration of the great victory on the Cross !
The Suffering Savior finds His communion with God restored.
GOD HAS LISTENED v 24

God has heard the prayer of the sufferer for deliverance (cf. vv. 19–21). The victim who is the true subject of this psalm died—and was raised to life again.

At v. 22, the scene changes, and we move into resurrection. See Heb. 2:11–12 for the NT explanation of this. Christ is no longer on the cross; He is in the midst of His brethren (the church) declaring the glory of God. Verse 24 must be read in connection with Heb. 5:7. This final section is filled with praise: in the church (v. 22), in Israel (vv. 23–26), and among the Gentiles (vv. 27–31). Verse 31 (NKJV) ends, “He has done this,” paralleling Jesus’ words, “It is finished.” Because of Christ’s work on the cross, salvation has been accomplished and all who come to Him by faith will be saved.

Hebrews 2:11–12 NIV84
11 Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers. 12 He says, “I will declare your name to my brothers; in the presence of the congregation I will sing your praises.”
Verse 31 (NKJV) ends, “He has done this,” paralleling Jesus’ words, “It is finished.” Because of Christ’s work on the cross, salvation has been accomplished and all who come to Him by faith will be saved.
2. THE RESURRECTION v 22-26
Awake O Harp: A Devotional Commentary on the Psalms Psalm 22: A Song of the Singing Sufferer

In these verses the Messiah no longer is suffering but is alive and in the midst of His people, leading them in praise for the mighty victory God has won (Heb. 2:11–12). Note that the Singing Savior joins us in worship! The first day of the week is the memorial to His resurrection, and we follow His example by meeting with God’s people along with Jesus as we praise Yahweh together. Resurrection day is victory day!

The congregation singing is a foreshadowing of the Risen Lord !
3. THE MESSIAH BLESSES HIS PEOPLE v 27-31
