God vs Pride

There is a Biblical principle in regards to sin. Sin has its origin in pride.

James 1:14-15 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

God prefers humility

Proverbs 18:12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty,And before honour is humility.

Beware of pride. In this story we see just how dangerous and foolish pride can be.

I- Their prideful position

God had commanded them to “replenish the Earth” & they disobeyed by deciding to settle and build a city.

Genesis 1:28,Genesis 9:2, Genesis 9:7

Their reason for disobedience was pride

“Genesis 11:4 “Let us build us”, “make us a name”

name - reputation

They trusted their tools more than God

They planned to ascend to heaven

Genesis 11:4

Their pride led them to sin and how many times has it done the same to us?

I can’t obey God i'll look bad

I'm going to trust something more than God

“I can ascend up to heaven”

Maybe we're building something in our life to get to God?

II- God’s proper perspective

What they were building was insignificant. God had to come down to see it

That thing in our life that we are so proud of is actually very small compared to God

Isaiah 6:4

III- Their Punishment proclaimed

Their sin led to ruined fellowship

Sin divides and ruins fellowship

Especially with God

Ishiah 59:2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.

Their sin brought confusion

Their sin eventually led to death

If you're here we must beware of pride. Don’t let pride keep you from obeying. Don’t let pride fool you into thinking you don’t need God. Don’t let pride convince you don’t need salvation.

James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
