Ps. 34:18 / Ps. 51:17 / Isa. 57:15 / James 4:6-19
I. BROKENNESS IS A KEY CONDITION TO WORSHIP.
Why is humility so important to worship?
1. Proud people do not sense their need for a fresh encounter with God.
2. Proud people are often blind to the true condition of their hearts.
3. Proud people are quick to blame others.
4. Proud people are quick to protect their image and reputation.
5. Proud people are quick to notice the faults of others more than their own.
6. Proud people have a hard time saying, “I am sorry” or “I am wrong.”
II. BROKENNESS IS A KEY CONDITION IN THE RECEPTION OF REVIVAL BLESSINGS.
“If my people….will humble themselves…. I will heal the land.” II Chr. 7:14
III. BROKENNESS IS A KEY CONDITION TO DIVINE GUIDANCE.
“The meek will He guide in judgement and the meek will He teach His way.” Ps 25:9
A. Meekness is not weakness.
IV. BROKENNESS IS A KEY CONDITION IN MENDING FRACTURED RELATIONS.
How does brokenness bring healing to fragmented relationships?
A. A broken spirit is a self-less spirit. (James 4:3)
B. A broken spirit is a peaceable spirit. (James 3:17-18)
C. A broken spirit is a forgiving spirit. (Eph. 4:32)
What will an unforgiving spirit do to the home or church?
(1). It brings division in the home.
(2). It brings delight to the Devil.
(3). It displeases God.
(4). It will drive children away from Christ.
V. BROKENNESS IS A KEY CONDITION TO A LIFE OF GREATER USEFULNESS.
There is a value to broken things: (Mark 14:3)
A. Brokenness releases new life.
B. Brokenness can be a turning point for greater service.
C. Brokenness strips us of self sufficiency.
HOW MAY I BE BROKEN?
1. Start with a fresh Vision of God in His Holiness.
2. Take a unvarnished look at self.
3. Be open and honest before God.
4. Do whatever you know God wants you to do.
