God Calls His Own to Repentance
God Calls His Own to Repentance
Joel 2:12-17
As the destruction from the plague is before them, God calls His children to repentance, that He might restore and bless, and yet the message of repentance is not just immediate but an attitude of repentance that must be part of their faith if they are to escape the impending judgment.
I. Repent with all of your heart saith the Lord. Vs.12-13a
True repentance is never a halfhearted endeavor, we must repent with true turning, regarding the word’s of the Lord as dire and with consequence.
II. Repent because God is merciful and forgiving. Vs.13b
III. Repent because He not only relents but blesses. Vs14
Places where God challenges us to repentance:
Malachi 3:10 10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. [1]
Psalm 34:8 8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. [2]
IV. Repent everyone, and let none abstain. Vs.15-16
It is not just for a few, or the real spiritual ones, but for everyone.
A problem today, that few involve themselves with the Christian duty at hand.
V. Repent and intercede all ye ministers of the Lord, for the people of the land. Vs.17
Pastors need to see their role as intercessor for the people.
Yet, all of us are priests before Christ, and should be involved in the business of intercession.
