Intro

What do you need?
Whatever it is, the Bible has good news for God’s people
this will be a much needed review for some, and new lesson for others
we turn to Philippians 4:19
Philippians 4:19 KJV 1900
19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
the first thing I see in Philippians 4:19 is a person

Person: But my God

so we are not talking about karma, mother nature, positive vibes, or some mystic force . . . but God, the person, the personality
and not just any god, but the God of the Bible
God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
The God that delivered the children of Israel from Egypts
The God that supplied the Israelites with food for 40 years in the wilderness
The God that delivered Three Hebrew boys from the fiery furnace
The God that delivered Daniel from the lion’s den
The God that sent his only begotten son, Jesus the Christ into the world to save us
that is the God we are referencing today
and through this person, God, there comes a promise

Promise: shall supply

it’s a done deal, it’s a guarantee, a sure thing, a promise
He’s gonna do it
make a way, come through
do a work, step in
work it out, fix it
that is something that you can count on
the person, makes a promise, and the promise gives us perspective
But my God shall supply . . . .

Perspective: all your need

“all your need” means that you will not lack any necessity
because all means all, it means every
every need will be met
every need taken care of
every need squared away
big or small, simple or complicated
Therefore, that means that right now, right in this very moment, you have everything that you need
“but preacher I can think of plenty of things that I need”
Believe me, I understand how you feel, and that’s why we should use this verse to gives us the proper perspective
Since God supplies all our needs, that means that if you don’t have it, you don’t need it
or what you have right now, IS what you really need right now
you see, “need” is a tricky word
there are some things you think you need, that you will never need
we can all testify of a time when you believed you really needed something . . . turns out that you made it just fine without it
you thought you needed that/this . . . never got it . . . and none for the worse
you thought you needed him/her . . . never got them . . . turns out, you’re glad you missed them
if you pay attention, some people who actually got what you thought you needed, are now trying to figure out how to get rid of it
right perspective . . . if you don’t have it, just trust God that you don’t need it
Then some things are wants, not needs
Understand that often we have a different definition of “need” as compared to God
many of what we call needs are really strong desires
many of what we call needs are preferences
many of what we call needs are sometimes even manifestations of lust, greed, and envy
just because your neighbor has it doesn’t mean that YOU need it
just because they went to Jamaica, doesn’t mean you need to go to Jamaica
just because they have a new cell phone, doesn’t mean you need a new cell phone
just because she has a man, doesn’t mean that you need a man
don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with, “I would like to have that too. . . . this too. . . one of those”
but some of us have mis-categorized some of our wants, and preferences and called them needs. . . and the result is that we are walking around sad and discouraged, not because we don’t have everything we need, but because we don’t have everything we want
getting all worked up over preferences
losing sleep over wishes . . . because we have mentally transformed a want into a need
we need to adjust our ”need” list, and slide some things from the need list over to the want/preference/first choice column
and learn to thank God that we do have everything we need . . . perspective
there are some things you WILL need . . . but not right now . . .your timing is off . . .
you can’t see what God sees, and so you start to panic over things that you don’t need right now
ever thought you missed a deadline, and it turned out you had a whole week/month left because you read it wrong, remembered it wrong, or someone gave you some bad information
Understand that God has all of the real and correct deadlines
somethings you think are due today, you won’t need that until tomorrow, next week, next month, next year
pandemic changed several due dates in my life, and I was worried about deadlines that would be moved months back . . . God knew that!
trust God’s timing . . . in the present, you have everything that you need . . . perspective
then there are some needs that God has already supplied, but you can’t see them
in other words, God has already provided, but it will take some faith to see it
God has already given it, but belief put in action will reveal it
Don’t you remember Abraham and Isaac climbing up the mountain, and Isaac asked, “Where is the lamb for the sacrifice” . . . and Abraham said the Lord will provide . . . . did not God already have a ram caught in the thicket
and it was Abraham’s willingness to trust God that revealed what was already provided
don’t you remember that the disciples could not see that 2 fish and 5 loaves, was enough to feed 5,000, but they took Jesus at his word began to pass it out . . . and they saw that it was enough for everyone and still have leftovers
the food was already there, the need already supplied . . . it just took some faith
in many cases, God has already given what we need to us . . .like a person who gives a gift card
but the gift card won’t do any good in your wallet, you must put it to use
that’s trust and faith when we use a gift card . . . order this whole meal, with the understanding that the gift card will be accepted
some will say but I checked the balance before I came . . . that’s still faith, we’ve all had cards that did not go through when we knew there was money on them
but if you insist, then check the balance on God. . . that is reading God’s word is . . . checking the balance
and how much do I have? . . . all my needs!
Last year, car situation got real bad . . . so bad that I put all three cars in the shop at the same time . . . with faith . . . Sherry thought I was crazy
but my truck was already down, and Elijah’s truck and Sherry’s car were showing signs of trouble
and I knew that two old cars, showing trouble equals no car
but I knew that three grown folks need at least one working car
so by faith, I put them all in the shop, Elijah and I had to take uber to get back from repair place
My truck, some of you were on the call on Zoom, a member brought up the condition of my truck out of the blue . . . end result people gave money for repairs
Sherry’s car, much more expensive repairs than thought, qualified for a loan that we paid off early
Elijah’s truck at the time . . . I can’t even remember how God blessed us
but the supply was not revealed, until I acted in faith
I am not saying take your car to the repair shop when you don’t have money . . . be led by the spirit
Some of us are waiting on God, and God is waiting on us . .. . the deposit of what you need has already been made, the funds are available right now . . . .the funds are not pending, you are pending
the talent is there
the help is there
the connections are there
the miracles are there
the open doors are there
the favor is there
but you must walk by faith to see what God has already supplied
My God . . . the person
shall supply . . . the promise
all your need . . . the perspective
and now this verse talks about provision

Provision: according to his riches in glory

he will provide for your needs based on his riches
He is able to supply you with any and every material need
ever share your needs with someone, and they were only able supply part of your need
you are grateful, but you are still very much in need
if you need $1000 to keep from being evicted, and your friend gives you $900 . . . you still are getting evicted
brother thank you, but I will still need a place to stay tomorrow
you don’t have to worry about that with God: he knows what you need. and has the riches to supply for all of it
he will never fall short
with God, there is never an almost
with God there is never a for the most part
he supplies according to his riches, which means more than enough
Whatever it takes to get your needs supplied, God has the riches to do it
The Bible says that, “the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof and they that dwell there in”
the world belongs to God
all the stuff in the world belongs to God
all the people belong to God
no matter what you need, how you need it, where you need it, how soon you need it . . . God’s got it covered!
not only covered, but covered continually . . . .
it’s funny that we will believe God for a one time payment of need . . . but not many payments
listen, don’t be discouraged because a need keep recurring . . . He has enough to cover you need this time too!
he has the riches!
if he did it before, he will do it again!
and God is so rich that he can supply more than just material things
His riches also include things like love, joy, peace, patience, endurance, strength, wisdom . . . .
favor, second chances
ideas, plans, designs
whatever you need, in any area of life, God’s God it!
My God . . . the person
shall supply . . . the promise
all your need . . . the perspective
according to his riches in glory . . . the provision
and now the procedure

Procedure: by Christ Jesus

here is the activation of the promise
this is a Christian thing: the promise, perspective, and provision comes through a relationship with Jesus
you get this promise through Jesus
This is kingdom of God related: this is not a general promise to humanity
this is members only
This is not new, it’s just like Matthew 6:33 thing . . . seek God’s kingdom first, and all the things that you need will be added
live for God and God shall supply all your needs
how do I live for God?
First understand that we all needed God, right relationship with God, forgiveness of sins form God
and so God supplied that need, he gave is son Jesus the Christ
by faith you have to accept what God has already supplied . . . salvation through Jesus Christ
accept him as both Lord and Savior
join a Bible believing church to learn how to serve Him
you focus on that, and you have a promise that your needs will be supplied
