Hasty Speech

Proverbs 29:20

A fool can be recognized by various characteristics: lack of intelligence or experience, sometimes without being aware of it (Prov. 12:15; Eccles. 5:1; Luke 12:20); an inability to be cautious in speech (Prov. 18:6-7); or pursuing courses of conduct or action that ultimately prove to be harmful (2 Sam. 24:10). There is another aspect of foolishness or folly that is even more insidious: the actions of one who deliberately sins against God’s laws (Jer. 29:23; Deut. 22:21; 2 Sam. 13:11-14).

It’s important to note that rash speech cannot easily be remedied.

Kiel & Delitch comment: The Hebrew KECEEL is also interpreted as Dullard.

“See a man that is rash to give an answer? There is more promise in the man of a dull countenance, who never says anything.”

This seems to be the interpretation as we see from the following verses that are familial in context.

I.                    Make a point to be aware of thyself.

II.                  Make it your daily practice to curb your speech.

III.                Keep a journal of your thoughts and sayings.
