What Jesus did at the funeral of His friend will help us to love the Lord “like a disciple”!

I. Bible quiz: What do the following people have in common?

The widow of Zarephath’s son
The Shunamite woman’s son
The man thrown into Elisha’s grave
The widow of Nain’s son
Jairus’ daughter
Various saints in Jerusalem
Tabitha
Eutychus
Lazarus

They were all raised from the dead!

(They experienced a bodily resurrection!!!)

2. Jesus said, “I AM GOD, AND I HAVE POWER OVER LIFE AND DEATH!”

“Jesus told her. ‘Your brother will raise again.’ ‘Yes,’ Martha said, ‘He will rise when everyone else rises, at the last day.’

Jesus told her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.

Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. [become extinct, or be annihilated] Do you believe this Martha?” John 11:23-16

3. Jesus told His followers that Lazarus was raised from the dead for two reasons:

For the Glory of God & the Son would be glorified.
So that we may believe in Him!

Jesus spoke in the present tense: “Whoever continues to live in me and believe in me shall never die.” John 11:26

Compass Point for disciples:

Jesus is the creator and sustainer of life, John 1
Accepting and following Him locks us into eternity; like Elijah and Enoch.
When we are born again, (baptized into Christ), like Nicodemus, we become citizens of the Kingdom of God! Romans 6:1-11, Colossians 2:8-15.

Your resurrection happened when you accepted Christ as your Savior.

Fight for it, be comforted by it, and most of all, allow God’s promise to transform you!
