2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,
Psalm 103:2-3
What comes to mind when I ask are you saved?
That you have the gift of eternal life by making Jesus Lord of your life.
A. Sozo is the Greek word that is translated saved.
It means to save, deliver, protect, to heal, and wholeness.
Word is used 106 times in the New Testament.
1. Most interpret saved as your sins being forgiven.
Romans 5:9 and John 3:17 and Matthew 1:21 and Titus 2:5
9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,
That’s true but only in part. Full gospel vs part gospel
2. It also means protection and deliverance
Some of my deliverance from drugs.
Matthew 8:25-26 and John 12:27 and Matthew 14:30 and 2 Timothy 4:18
Matthew 8:25–26 (ESV)
25 And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.”
26 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.”
18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
3. Sozo means healing.
Matthew 9:21-22 and Mark 6:56
Matthew 9:21–22 (ESV)
21 for she said to herself, “If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.”
22 Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well.
56 And wherever he came, in villages, cities, or countryside, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and implored him that they might touch even the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well.
The English word “made well” is the translated from the Greek word sozo.
Bible doesn't make any theological distinction between sin sickness and physical sickness.
God’s plan is to walk in complete wholeness of body, soul, and spirit. Without the disruption of sin in the spirit, sickness in the body, or depression and oppression in the mind.
God made a healing covenant in the Old Testament
26 saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.”
Jehovah Rapha the lord that heals.
Rapha alludes to stitching something that has been torn, or completely repairing something that needs to be mended. Figuratively it means to heal someone.
37 He brought [Israel] forth also with silver and gold, and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.
