Our scripture reading is from 1st Corinthians 8, chapters 1 through 8, hear God's word concerning things, offered to Idols, we know that we have they all have knowledge, knowledge puffs up, but love edifies and if anyone thinks that he knows anything he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.
But if anyone loves God, this one is known by him therefore concerning the eating of things offered to Idols.
We know that an idol is nothing in the world.
And that there is no other God, but one or even if there are so-called Gods weather in heaven, or on Earth is, there are many gods and many lords.
Yet for us, there is one God, the father of whom are all things for Wii and Wii for him and one, Jesus Christ through whom are all things.
And through whom we live, however, there is not in anyone that knowledge for some with concessions with consciousness of the idle, until now eat it as a thing, offered to an idol and their conscience being weak is defiled but food does not come into us to God or neither if we eat, are we the better, nor if we do not meet Are we the worst?
May God add his Blessing to the reading and hearing of his holy word this morning, please be seated.
In your moment.
So hopefully that will be the end of it.
I'm going to be having senioritis here.
Okay, now I'm too hot.
Okay.
Anyways, I was saying I am really thankful that John is giving me this opportunity to speak.
I think of myself more as a teacher, I don't think of myself as a preacher.
So if I don't stand up here and I'm not using fire and brimstone, please forgive me.
I wasn't trained as a as a pastor, but I like to educate.
So hurt before we do any, let's pray Heavenly Father, we thank you, Lord, for today.
We thank you for your word.
It is our guidebook.
It is the thing that you have given for us to have instructions the our instruction manual.
Really?
I remember one time, someone said that the Bible stands for basic instructions before leaving Earth, and I think that's true.
I think this is what you have spoken to us written down Faithfully by prophets and and scribes to share with us today.
And we are truly blessed by having your word.
And we're free in this nation, at least so far to listen to study to read your word.
Pray that you'll speak your message through me and people will just forget that I'm even here.
And we'll ask these things in Christ name, amen.
Okay, I have entitled today's message a case of love and knowledge.
Has Joel read our scripture.
You kind of get an idea of where we're going to go, but let me just do a little bit of background.
There are many scriptures, many things that are in the word that are pretty straightforward that don't require us to have to use our minds a lot.
For example, when Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth and the life.
No one comes to the father, but through me, he meant it, it's pretty straightforward, be there.
Believe It, Or we don't, he's the only way to heaven.
That's pretty straightforward.
Today's passage is an example of something that's not like that.
Snot straightforward, it takes a little thought, you got a puzzle through some things, you got to weigh some different ideas and come to a conclusion and hopefully draw some sort of biblical principle that we can live by
Regarding this Pastor, John has been working through as you know, 1st Corinthians and you know, the history of the Corinthian the city of Corinth for one was very Pagan and the church was riddled with all kinds of issues of division and problem some dealing with sexual immorality.
And in this case, today we're going to talk about food and it's an important issue, but I think today in our society we kind of sometimes don't relate.
I don't know how many of you have ever gone to a restaurant and they bring the food and we just sacrifice this to a guy is that okay?
If you eat it, I don't know of any restaurants that do that today.
So the Situation's a little different, but maybe get, let me give you an analogy.
Let's say you have.
Someone who grows crops.
And they're, they're not a Believer, they grow crops and they get them canned and they bring them to the supermarket and they put their own private label on them.
And so when you're shopping or going, okay, there's the national brand, its, you know, a dollar, but this local farmer he is, can his and it's only fifty cents.
So which one should I have?
Now the problem that comes up and let's say that that local can.
This guy is a pagan And on it he says it's like for the glory of Satan.
And you're going who I like the idea that 50 Cent's but is talking about some thing, some Idol, some image.
In this case, Satan, should I buy it, should I eat it?
And that's the kind of issue that we're kind of dealing with.
So it's not a Perfect Analogy, but I'll give you some idea.
As I said that the city of Corinth was very Pagan just as the whole Roman world was everybody.
There was polytheistic is Big tested.
Anybody know what polytheistic means?
Many gods, exactly Polly and Fiat fast.
So you're dealing with many gods, they believed in.
If you remember the story of Paul going to the areopagus court, Mars Hill, and they had statues.
And Idols to all kinds of gods and he found one egg this one supposed to an unknown.
God, will let me tell you who this unknown.
God is very great passage in Acts 17.
So that's kind of where we're going with this.
So This Society is Pagan, it's, but as the people are getting to know God as they're becoming Believers, these issues are starting to surface dealing with the different levels of maturity in the church.
Strong Believers versus weak Believers or new Believers, young believers.
And so this issue came up.
Okay.
So our passage today, 1st Corinthians 8 vs 128.
I broke it down into three sections and first three verses for the first section.
The next 3 verses for the second section and then the last two verses for the third section.
Now before we get going too far, I want to make sure that I don't pull a John and what I mean by that is I have a lot of material and I may not be able to get through it all today.
So either we strapped in and I talked at a hundred miles an hour or we may not finish and we have to continue it next week, so I'm just want to put that little disclaimer up front right now before we get too far, as I may not get through it all because there's a lot of stuff here.
Okay.
So as I said I titled this message a case of Love versus knowledge cuz that's kind of the basic thought that's going through here.
You got love on one hand and you have knowledge in which is the should we listen to which one should we follow?
So then his first section I want to talk about Can I get the right slime?
Here we go.
I'm going to talk about a matter of love.
A matter of love.
I don't know if you have your fill in.
I don't know if you like to fill in some people.
Do some people don't if you like one that's pre-printed.
Talk to me.
And I'll make you one later.
I just Anyway, fill in.
Hopefully I will help you remember what the point.
So the first three verses are dealing with a matter of love.
And so we want to look at those K in inverse one actually.
we have this concept of love the supremacy of love.
Meaning that there's Joel read you.
You heard this passage that?
There's a conflict.
A conflict between love and knowledge.
I guess before she go, I go on.
I should just mention this very beginning, an inverse 8 verse 1, of chapter 8. Paul starts by saying now concerning I know Pastor John has talked about that pole through various points through the rest of the letter of First Corinthians starts of section with this phrase.
Now, concerning whatever it is, and he's basically, he's answering questions, the current, the Corinthian Church, had some issues dealing with with knowledge in the Bible and what's right, and what's wrong.
And they were asking him questions.
So he was going through and it from this point out.
He starts to answer those questions.
I think when John got to chapter 7 verse 1, he came across this phrase.
