COME, and I will give you…

One of the sweetest words in the Bible.
The first call or command to “come” in the Bible is one of salvation, Genesis 7:1 And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
As is also the last Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
I. What Must we Come For?
· Rest— “Come, and I will give you rest,”
o Matt. 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
· Knowledge— “Come and see,” (John’s disciples wanted to know where Jesus dwelt.
o John 1:39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
§ Because He calls us friend, we are invited to know Him intimately.
· Satisfaction— “Come unto Me and drink,”
o John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
§ Do we thirst for the Lord?
· Discipleship— “Come and follow Me,”
o Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
· Victory— “Come, … put your feet upon the necks,”
o Josh. 10:24 And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.
· Fellowship— “Come and dine,”
o John 21:12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.
§ Breakfast with the Lord; we are invited to dine with Him at His table.
· Refreshment— “Come and rest a while,”
o Mark 6:31 And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while:
· Inheritance— “Come … and inherit,”
o Matt. 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
II. How Must We Come?
We must come just as we are, without any attempt to make ourselves presentable, for the very good reason that we are too far gone, and only He can do anything with us, and then He will make us new creatures—a new creation—in Jesus Christ.
“Just as I am, without one plea, But that Thy Blood was shed for me, And that Thou bidst me come to Thee; Oh, Lamb of God, I come!”
III. When Must We Come?
(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) 2 Corinthians 6:2. You are not promised another hour on this planet. Though God be longsuffering, You are not promise another minute.
