A Barren Woman

A woman who didn’t have children.
She had a Godly Husband but no children Her Husband was Elkanah (God Created)
Her Husband and his son served God in the temple.
1 Chronicles 6:31–34 NKJV
Now these are the men whom David appointed over the service of song in the house of the Lord, after the ark came to rest. They were ministering with music before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of meeting, until Solomon had built the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, and they served in their office according to their order. And these are the ones who ministered with their sons: Of the sons of the Kohathites were Heman the singer, the son of Joel, the son of Samuel, the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah,
1 Samuel 1:2–3 NKJV
And he had two wives: the name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children. This man went up from his city yearly to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. Also the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there.
1 Samuel 1:4–7 NKJV
And whenever the time came for Elkanah to make an offering, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and daughters. But to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved Hannah, although the Lord had closed her womb. And her rival also provoked her severely, to make her miserable, because the Lord had closed her womb. So it was, year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, that she provoked her; therefore she wept and did not eat.
She was blessed, She was loved, wealthy and well taken care of. But she understood that she was created to be fruitful to bear life. To serve God not just be comfortable and selfish.
She put herself in a place of fruitfulness. It was initiated by her desire to be fruitful.
How did she become fruitful?
She wept and did not eat!
we would rather skip this part.
Let’s just get to work. But wait where is the burden? Where is the heart?
Are we simply doing things that we can do?
Are we simply assuming that if God wanted something in our life He would wave a magic wand and it would be there?
She wept… Tears come from the heart.
Its important to find out what is in your heart… There are things that God has put into your heart…
Psalm 126:5–6 NLT
Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy. They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest.
Where are your tears?
The world needs more people with tears in their eyes, filled with the heart of the God.
What do you weep for? Is it of God or is it for your benefit?
Does it burn so deep a hole in you that you can’t eat?
She didn’t eat?
We need people who are so deeply desiring to become a vessel of God that filling themselves up isn’t enough! Nothing in this world can satisfy them. They are people who want to see the Kingdom of God on the earth and will stop at nothing (except sin) to become a vessel.
1 Samuel 1:8 NKJV
Then Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”
Nothing in this world could satisfy her desire to become a vessel of God.
1 Samuel 1:9–18 NKJV
So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the tabernacle of the Lord. And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish. Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.” And it happened, as she continued praying before the Lord, that Eli watched her mouth. Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk. So Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!” But Hannah answered and said, “No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord. Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now.” Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him.” And she said, “Let your maidservant find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.
She went to the house of God… The meeting place, where man mets God
She was in bitterness of soul.
Job 7:11 NKJV
“Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.
She understood that she couldn’t do it without God!
John 15:5 NKJV
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
She was going to throw her seed before the Lord and see what God would do with it!
She offered herself up as an offering to become a vessel of God and bring forth a son who would be dedicated, concecrated to God. No selfish motive here…
“Weep for something, go to bat for something you don’t get to keep for yourself...”
Galatians 6:8–9 NKJV
For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Matthew 13:23 NKJV
But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”
1 Samuel 1:24–28 NLT
When the child was weaned, Hannah took him to the Tabernacle in Shiloh. They brought along a three-year-old bull for the sacrifice and a basket of flour and some wine. After sacrificing the bull, they brought the boy to Eli. “Sir, do you remember me?” Hannah asked. “I am the very woman who stood here several years ago praying to the Lord. I asked the Lord to give me this boy, and he has granted my request. Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will belong to the Lord his whole life.” And they worshiped the Lord there.
