In this passage we are taught three important PARTS about the Lord’s resurrection.

I. The Personal Witnesses. V.1

1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

A. Nothing like a personal testimony.

B. Notice what day this happened on.

They began to worship on Sunday, the day of the resurrection of their Lord.

“And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight” (Ac. 20:7).

“Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come” (1 Co. 16:2).

C. Notice who showed up.

II. The Place Witnessed. Vs.2-4

A. The descending of God‘s angel. V.2

2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.

B. The description of God’s angel. V.3

3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:

C. The destruction of God’s angel. V.4

4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.

III. The Powerful Word. Vs.5-8

A. The crucified Lord. V.5

5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.

B. The buried and risen Lord. V.6

6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

C. The message of the Lord. Vs.7-8

7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.

8 And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
