1 Timothy 6:17–21 ESV
17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. 20 O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,” 21 for by professing it some have swerved from the faith. Grace be with you.
Me
Through my life and education I have been given tasks to be done on someone else's behalf, in their name.
Pereira, G.A., T.A., representative at events
Take this seriously
TIU
Not only my name but theirs
Anytime I have been in this position, I am responsible for their mission
Even when we do not think we carry this type of responsibility, most of us do in one form or another in our lives.
We
Im sure this is something true of all here
Those wearing a uniform
At an event wherein and organizations name
Guard what we have been entrusted with
All of our role
Special for Deacons and Elders
When this happens in the church we can be filled with joy that this is done with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and mediation of Christ by the power of the Father.
Anytime we are representing someone we are responsible for their mission, and this is never more true than when we represent God. In 1 Tim we are given a very particular mission.
We are called to protect God’s truth.
This book as a whole and in fact all believers carry this responsibility. God has entrusted us with his mission.
God
Pray - May the words of my mouth and meditations of our hearts be pleasing in your sight.

Charge from Paul through Timothy
This starts as a negative charge
Important that it comes from Paul but is enacted by Timothy
We still carry these charges
Charge the rich
Rich is a different group than the one mentioned earlier in this chapter
The earlier passage mentioned those that desired for money, loved money
Many more would be rich now
Any that has money
The more there is the more this applies
Earlier warning was about the desire
It applied to anyone
This is a focus on the presently rich
What not to be
Haughty
arrogantly superior and disdainful
Anyone with more than others must be mindful of this.
We do not want to feel we deserve more authority because we have more.
Trusting on riches, setting hopes on uncertain riches rather than on God
A form of idolatry
God provides all things
Everything to enjoy (Piper and Christian Hedonism)
Not in a way of our own desire but to enjoy God in his creation
Sabbath
Tithing, not giving up ours, returning a portion to God
Elder at CTK, heard it elsewhere but this is where is stood out to me
As we return a portion that you have trusted to us.
What to do
Do good
Use riches for good works
Be generous
Ready to share
Saving
It is good to save in steward
Different to store treasure on an uncertain foundation
Storing up treasure in heaven
When we trust on temporal uncertain things we seek truth in them instead
We are called to protect God’s truth.
1 Timothy 6:20–21 ESV
20 O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,” 21 for by professing it some have swerved from the faith. Grace be with you.
Final 2 verses
Guard what has been entrusted
Property functioning church enables this
Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions
false teaching
These things are falsely called knowledge
Holding to these will make us swerve from the faith
Cant lose salvation but not fulfilling our role
Final Benediction
We are called to protect God’s truth.
This has much for us to hold onto, but at its core, this is an instruction of how the Church of God is to be ordered.
You
Guard what we have been entrusted

-Seek truth in Scripture
Do this not to stay in the walls go and share
Be developed and develop others

Go Share With the Lost
We are called to protect God’s truth.
We
