29 And as they went out of Jericho, a great crowd followed him.
30 And behold, there were two blind men sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
31 The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be silent, but they cried out all the more, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
32 And stopping, Jesus called them and said, “What do you want me to do for you?”
33 They said to him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.”
34 And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed him.
We look at these stories and begin to realize these guys are at the end of their rope and they are desperate… and what you can see is how you view yourself is how you will live your life… if you think you are really something you will start to treat people that way.
Sometimes we need to be humbled…and then from that we ask and sees how much we need him
Here is where we find these guys they are so desperate… they say have Mercy on us Son of David… they came to the end of themselves and some of us haven’t come to the end of ourselves yet.
Do you have the kind of life where you would get down on your knees in desperation in front of him and instead of Gossip[. pray… and you have to pray.... and prayer is weird because it shows that you have no control. IT shows you are not in control, your ego dies in prayer...
Rom 8 says creation is groaning and the spirit is groaning inside of him because he doesnt even know what to pray anymore....’
And how much groaning do you see in your life for more of him… and I can just see us being happy with as much of him as we have right now… and we areng groaning for more of him… we are happy and content with the amount of JEsus we have in our lives and that is a problem… we need more of him and that comes from thinking we are more of ourselves than we are....
Some of you aren’t humble enough and seeing yourself as a blind beggar and asking for more from him and knowing that your ego needs to die right now… altar… can someone help me.... small group.... instead of political opinions can someome just pray for me… and have that humility of the beggar… and say HAVE MERCY ON ME… and you ahve to dive deeper....
Lord have mercy on me, I need more of you… and I need to not be in control… and what led into all of this...
28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
This is GOD, and instead of coming and having everyone bow down to him like every other God, he came and he served… and some of you are takers… you aren’t servants… and the times when we look most like Jesus is when we are serving others… not having people serve us… and a successful person is when we get to say I get to serve people.... and thats the heart we want you to have here… we want you to serve not jsut come… and serve as an usher… the city… you dont just get to come to church and be a consumer....serving with your money.... and when you come you need to come serve… and some of you come to be served… to have the music served to you you like… to have me serve you with a sermon you like… not to serve!
Everyone has to have the mentality where we never look more like Jesus than when we serve people… the son of man came to serve… and you know this is crazy, because this is GOd we are talking about… he has all the power in the world but he doesnt use it to destroy.. he is using it to serve
HE absorbs the pain of it all because he came to serve...
And I dont want this to be a cruiseliner where you come to hear the music and be entertained and go home… this is a battleship… we are in a war....
Some of you are living your Christian life like its all daisies,, but this is a war.... the son of man came to serve, why vecasue he only had a certain amount of time,,, and so do you...
You know when the church started to grow… when we started supporting and sending people to Haiti,, and there was something we saw moving,.. and there is still work to be done, but we dont see it because we want someoen else tp do it...
Skeptics look a the church and think the church is full of bad people but its not… we mess up but its not full of bad people.... we just try to help the world around us… adn we have this generosity.... and then there are some of you that tell me that its none of my business its all about you… and thats absolutely right and you should be scared of him, not me… because it isnt about me..
and some of you have a brilliant mind and we need you to use it for the kingdom, not the world...
and this is what he is talking about you are supposed ot use everything you have for the kingdom.

Ransom is where we get the idea of the substitionary atonement of Jesus…meaning he substituted himself for us… so the word ransom is to buy back a slave… or someone has been kidnapped
SO who did God buy us back from? Satan? No, From the wrath that we were destined for...
Christianity isnt barbaric… the trinity is so hard to understand.... and here is what you see that God didnt ask you to sacrifice your own child… instead he sacrificed his child for you...

We can be pretty sure the crucifixition really happend in part because it makes so little theological sense… as the great Christian verse John 3:16 puts it for god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son and as powerful as those words ring now.. Imagine their power in the ancient world where Gods had been beings whom you made sacrifices....and now here is a God who not only didnt demand sacrifices from you but made sacrfices FOR you. This is the beauty of the Gospel… we diodnt have to pay anything to appease the gods
How could God be angry… but you know what anger shows? Love.
OF course God is mad and angry, the opposite of love is not anger… it is indifference… so he cared so much he paid the price himself… look at what it says..

Jericho is the last major stop before they get to Jerusalem.... and he has been travelling south for a while and stops here...
Big church.. compromises the gospel.... and the first mega church pastor was JESUS… and they followed him because he was meeting their need… and this is really about you and not just me… if you are loving and serving community we wouldn’t be able to build a church big enough to contain all the people
OF course you want people… its not bad news its good news… the question is what will you do now.. and it should be ANYTHING to make them meet jesus… but for some of us its not...
The reason the crowd is there isn’t just becasue he was meeting their needs
But these guys found something in Jesus they couldn’t find elsewhere… and matthew put this story here for a reason,,, and he did it becasue the last story was about the disciples asking the wrong story… can I sit at your right and left hand of power… so immediately after that what do you want me to do for you… and its about blind people who cant see… and this is about the disciples who were blind and couldn’t realy see… and Jericho had a weed that grew that was used for medicine to heal blind people… and there were more blind people there… and he heals them and they follow him
and YOUR biggest need is discipleship… yes your marriage your health… but what you really need is discipliship becasue we are really blind...
You want power to show the world that you want all this stuff fixed… show the world you are completely content and satisfied in him.... and thats when people look at us and say man tehre is something different in him

What we tend to do is to keep quiet.... these guys are told to shutup and they speak louder...
