God Has Unimaginably Great Things in Store for You
God Has Unimaginably Great Things in Store for You
Who has dreams for the future?
What are some of y’all’s dreams?
Read 1 Corinthians 2:9
But as it is written,
What no eye has seen, no ear has heard,
and no human heart has conceived—
God has prepared these things for those who love him. (1 Corinthians 2:9 CSB)
Pray
Let me lead off with this: your imagination is no match for the Lord’s.
God’s provision for you is immeasurably better *everybody say better* than the things you dream of and imagine.
There is a place for your dreams and hopes, but they should not be ultimate in your life.
Knowing this, you are left with a daily choice to make: 1) you can trust that God is creating something for you that is beyond what you can imagine, or 2) you can indulge in and chase after your own dreams and desires of your heart.
Question- can you always trust your heart? Is your heart trustworthy?
Read Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is more deceitful than anything else, and incurable- who can understand it? (Jeremiah 17:9 CSB)
What is an idol?
Its more than a golden calf that the Children of Israel made out of the gold earrings they wore - idols are also present today. They are even present in your life and my life.
Who is an NBA fan?
Who is rooting for the Bucks? For the Suns?
This week and the NBA finals game.
Sweaty men playing with an air-filled animal skin becomes ultimate
Place to enjoy it… but when is it too far?
A famous theologian once said, “The human heart is a factory of idols.”
That may be true… but what do we do about it?
Read Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, *say all of your heart*
and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
What, or who, are we told to trust in?
Trust in God with all of your heart! No holding back.
Some translations say “lean not on your own understanding”
What does it mean to lean on your own understanding?
Who do you lean on in decisions?
Know Him in all of your ways. Know what God prioritizes- what matters to Him. Have a relationship with Christ in which you can make decisions with Him.
Bring your decisions to God in prayer, use the Bible as your guide, seek guidance and help from others following Jesus, and follow God’s leading.
He will make your paths straight.
I promise, you won’t be disappointed. God’s results may not meet your original expectations or come in your timing. But you will not be disappointed in the end.
Let me close with this:
Read Psalm 37:4
Take delight in the LORD, and He will give you your heart’s desires. (Psalm 37:4)
You see, you don’t necessarily have to throw away all your dreams. “Thanks, Lance, for being a dream crusher.”
This is the application: What do you desire most? Your heart’s dreams to come true? Or for God to take up residence in your heart and have His way?
Don’t delight in your own plans and dreams. Delight in God- He is the Lord. Then, He will take the wheel from there.
Don’t settle for anything less than God and His provision and plan.
Jesus didn’t sacrifice Himself on that cross and rise again so all your dreams would come true today or tomorrow. He did it for God’s glory and your eternal good. He did all this so you could have life at its fullest- life better than you imagine.
