A person’s actions or way of life.
Good behavior will not earn salvation, but believers must practice good behavior in accordance with Scripture as evidence of their conversion. Scripture stresses that bad behavior is inconsistent with Christian faith and urges believers to mend their ways.
Examples of good behavior
Genesis 6:22 (KJV 1900) — 22Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
Luke 1:6 (KJV 1900) — 6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
Genesis 5:24 (KJV 1900) — 24And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
2 Kings 18:3 (KJV 1900) — 3And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that David his father did.
Job 1:8 (KJV 1900) — 8 And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fear God, and eschew evil?
John 1:47 (KJV 1900) — 47Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
3 John 3 (KJV 1900) — 3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
Examples of bad behavior
1 Kings 16:30 (KJV 1900) — 30And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord above all that were before him.
Genesis 4:8 (KJV 1900) — 8And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
2 Timothy 4:14 (KJV 1900) — 14 Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works:
Genesis 6:5 (KJV 1900) — 5And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Good behavior towards God is commanded
Exodus 20:2–11 (KJV 1900) — 2I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. 7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
