Matthew 6:1-4

Matthew 6:1–4 (NKJV)
1 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.

1) What is a charitable deed?

A charitable deed is defined as
generous in donations, or gifts to relieve the needs of ill, or helpless persons, or of animals
Proverbs 29:7 is a good biblical deffiniton of a charitable deed.
Proverbs 29:7 NKJV
7 The righteous considers the cause of the poor, But the wicked does not understand such knowledge.
God wants us to do charitable deeds in Hebrews 13:16
Hebrews 13:16 NKJV
16 But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
But not in a haughty way as to say look at me!

2) Why not make it about myself?

Is being selfish really that bad?
Philippians 2:3 specifically states that this is not how to conduct our lives
Philippians 2:3 NKJV
3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.
1 Corinthians 10:24 states that we should be focused on our brothers needs more than ourselves.
1 Corinthians 10:24 NKJV
24 Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being.
“You will have no reward from your Father in heaven.”
Proverbs 19:17 says that the lord will repay for your deeds
Proverbs 19:17 NKJV
17 He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, And He will pay back what he has given.
Acts 20:35says that it is a “blessing” to give
Acts 20:35 NKJV
35 I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
God gives no place to selfish actions!
When you do a charitable deed to gain recognition from others is why you will have no “reward” from God for that deed.

3) “Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.”

We are the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:12-31
You should never announce your deeds for Christ for affirmation from other believers.

4) Your Father who sees in secret

God is all knowing and all seeing you don’t have to announce to the whole world for God to see what you have done
He also sees your hearts intention when you do it.
just because you do a good deed and don’t tell anybody doesn't mean that it was a good deed in Gods eyes.

5) Why are you doing what you’re doing?
