The Glorious Nature of the Promise
The Glorious Nature of the Promise
Haggai 2:6-9 For thus says the Lord of hosts: Yet once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land. 7 And I will shake all nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall come in, and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord of hosts. 8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, declares the Lord of hosts. 9 The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, declares the Lord of hosts.’ ”

Exodus 19:5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; 6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.”
1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession,
Why Have a Lesser Temple?
Why Have a Lesser Temple?
Because a greater one was coming.
Greater than Solomon’s temple.
Greater than Herod’s temple.
Infinitely greater.
I think God is allowing the temporal temple to diminish in splendor...
John the Baptist said, “I must must decrease so that He increases.”
Jesus is the fulfillment of the Temple
So, He is the greater Temple.
Matthew 12:6
The Nation’s treasures are the children of God
Every tribe, tongue and nation.
We’ve been plundered from the Domain of Darkness.
Because the infinitely, glorious & majestic, eternal Temple was coming…Jesus.

THoughts
Has God kept His promise?
Has God kept His promise?
I mean this Temple was going to be much more Utilitarian...
It was not going to fulfill God’s promise here in Haggai 2:9
But then around 20BC - 10BC Herod had the Temple expanded and lavished with riches.
Looking at this with temporal eyes...
Not understanding the fulness of the promise...
Could have led many to think the only thing that was left was the overthrow of Rome...
And, the promise would be fulfilled.
Kinda gives an understanding why the religious leaders didn’t like any talk about tearing down the current temple in Jesus’ day.
This temple of Herod was almost three times the footprint.
The Romans threw tons of resources into it...
And, it was one of the most impressive pieces of architecture the time.
It was, physically speaking, much more glorious than the Temple built by Solomon.
However, Jesus knew the extent of the promise in Haggai.
The promised temple in Haggai 2:6-9 is not a physical building...
The temple promised in Haggai 2:6-9 was Jesus.
Jesus brought the Kingdom of God.
We are currently experiencing the promises of God in JC.
And, the completion of that promise is coming at the Consummation.
