Why Do We Need A Culture Shift?

I don’t know if you realize that cultures shifts are needed because of the disobedient actions of the people of God!
Romans 1:24 ESV
Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,
Romans 1:26 ESV
For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature;
Romans 1:28 ESV
And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.
Evangelical Commentary on the Bible A. The Leveling Guilt of Humanity, I (1:19–32)

God gave them over because they exchanged the truth for a lie (1:24–32). It is the irony of God’s judgment that sinners receive what they seek by self-acclaimed wisdom. They seek wisdom and happiness independent of God and God gives them over to futility and frustration (see 8:20, a key verse which indicates that sinful humanity has infected all of creation with the penalty of futility); they insist on working from the bottom up (beginning with the serpent’s crafty assault in Gen. 3) rather than from the top down with God’s self-disclosure, so God despoils their rebellious pleasure by turning their sinful desires on the physical level to degradation. Three times in this passage Paul uses the phrase God gave them over (vv. 24, 26, 28), in each case indicating not God’s permissiveness or withdrawal but his just punishment.

From the very beginning of the creation, we see defiance in the people of Go starting with Adam and Eve.
What is defiance: it is open resistance, bold disobedience, it is an act or an instance of defying, to challenge.
We see it years after the creation, when God had to destroy His very own creation with a flood.
He only saved Noah and his family and of course the animals!
We see it with Sodom and Gomorrah, when they couldn’t 10 righteous people in the entire city.
It was only Lot and his family that were spared, not even his wife because she turned and looked back.
So she is a cow lick now.
We see it with the Hebrew people and Moses when they left captivity in Egypt, into the wilderness. They were finely free but that wasn’t good enough they grumbled and complained.
The went from a short journey to the promise land to staying in the wilderness 40 years.
We see it with wanting a King like everyone else, instead of being led by the Priest and Prophets.
They didn’t like the Kings either!
God Sends His Son into the World to Establish a New Culture Shift!
John 3:16–17 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Jesus was sent because God loves His creation, each and everyone of us.
This culture shifts starts with John the Baptist, in telling people to repent for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand!
Matthew 3:1–2 ESV
In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
We see Jesus get baptized by John and setting the example of the change that is going happen as part of the shift.
Matthew 3:15–17 ESV
But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
We see Jesus go on a fast for 40 days and nights after the fast Jesus is tempted and defeats Satan with the Word of God!
Matthew 4:11 ESV
Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.
Jesus takes over where John left off, in calling for the people to repent!
Matthew 4:17 ESV
From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Jesus starts calling people out to follow Him and become one of His disciples.
Matthew 4:18–20 ESV
While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him.
These dudes just drop what they are doing and start following this complete stranger, to become fishers of men!
Jesus continues with the Culture Shift and telling them the perspective needs to change in the way you see and treat others!
Luke 6:27–28 ESV
“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.
How do you treat your enemies, people you don’t like, people who use you?
Jesus tells us that we need to have child like faith!
Mark 10:15 ESV
Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”
We have to take Jesus at His word, like our children do with their parents. It is called blind faith believing Him at His word.
We need to be born again!
John 3:3–5 ESV
Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
We need to be born again, with a fresh start in the spirit of God, walking into a new culture shift in our hearts and lives.
How does this happen?
Matthew 6:33 ESV
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
We need to make Jesus Lord of our lives just our free pass into Heaven!
How does this happen?
Philippians 3:14 ESV
I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Stay locked in and focused what lays ahead!
Philippians 4:13 ESV
I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
Know this one thing that you can do it because your strength come from Jesus!
What’s Next in the Culture Shift?
Matthew 28:18–20 ESV
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Making Disciples and teaching them how to follow Jesus!
Mark 16:15–18 ESV
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Go into all the world and proclaim the Gospel message and guide them into the knowledge and understanding of who Jesus is and that He died for them!
If we were to truly look at this world by taking off our rose colored glasses and see it for what it is we would have to agree, that we are in need of a major culture shift!
