Angels of God moving between the 2 signify the kingdom coming on earth as it is in heaven
v.13 Canaan/Israel will be the land of His people
Exodus, Joshua
v. 14 YHWHs people will be global
blessing through Jesus is global
common grace - globe is blessed by presence of YHWH with His people (implications)
particular grace - through Jesus, eternal grace comes to those who believe
v.15 Jacob literally comes back Gen. 35:6 and is renamed
Genesis 35:6 ESV
And Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him,

Exodus, Numbers, Ezekiel, Zechariah
Presence of God w/His people in a restored creation is brought about in Jesus
v.17 afraid and awesome are same word
ranges from anxiety to utter terror
to be in awe, reverent, consider hallowed
most pop. translations are exact same; KJV uses dreadful instead of awesome
we should understand glorious terror - how do people respond when they encounter the holiness of God?
Is His glory perhaps more terrifying than the dark? Yes! It exposes our helplessness in making our case in the face of such holiness.

And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Moses said, “Please show me your glory.” And he said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name ‘The Lord.’ And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.”
Luke 2:9
Luke 2:9 ESV
And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear.
vv. 18-22 The place was not significant until and only because God revealed. Where do we now find God to reveal Himself?
The Word - Jesus
Therefore we worship God there - The Bethel has become the tabernacle - temple = Jesus

In other words, He is the way. Heaven comes to us and we come to heaven at or in the gate/way -
