The TERRIFYING “BEFORE”

14-15 a show the fourfold fallenness of the world.
Justice/Righteousness/truth/uprightness all gone and forgotten,
God then responds. First the lament (15b-16a), then the action (16b-19).
the response is also a fourfold/ the recompense is in magnitude to the sin. verse 17 (righteousness/salvation/vengeance/zeal).

The GLORIOUS PROMISE

Who to? verse 20- those who turn...
Some theologizing: this is the church!
The covenant promises have a covenant mediator.
to the Church (Eph 2.19-3.6)
The promise is twofold - Spirit and Word
-Christ as the WORD
-The HS at Pentecost
the promise is lasting- from generation to generation and forevermore
The Promise is from God, its HIS spirit on us, it is HIS words HE places in our mouths
Some theologizing: this is the church!

The BLESSED “AFTER”

Who is “you? in verse 59:21-60? - it is the People of God - The church!
SO then how ought we live in the blessed after?
-The light comes so we become a light (verses 1-3 see Mat 5:14-15)
-Blessed beyond measure (4-7 see James 1:16-18)
-World wide (8-14 see Rev 7:9-10)
-Changed (15-18, see Galatians 5:19-24)
-Living in light of The work of God (19-22 see John 1:9-16)
End with ALREADY AND NOT YET!
