Week 3 of Detox
We are coming out of Summer where we have been on vacations and conferences, and traveling… During the Summer people stop doing things they should be doing like church attendance, QT, eating healthy, all sorts of stuff.
We are coming into the Fall… the season of the Harvest. To get ready for that, we need to refocus and that’s what we began on August 1st. It will help us to refresh and refocus as we come out of the Summer.
This week on Monday - Wednesday, our governor has asked us to Fast Lunch and pray for the COVID spike that has occured. We want you to pray for people to see the truth about the vaccines and get vaccinated… and for people to wear masks. We also want to pray for COVID to go.
We don’t normally fast in August like we do in January. However we do need to do something people in recovery are familiar with and that is We need to Detox. Spiritually, Physically, Mentally and Socially.

Detox - Removal of toxic substances from a living organism

Each week we will detox or cleanse things from our lives. Spirit, soul and Body. I feel like my body needs a detox after this trip.
Last week we talked about your spirit man. This week, we will look at the Soul. Our mind, will and emotions.
Our Souls can become toxic.
2 Corinthians 6:14–7:1 NLT
14 Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? 15 What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? 16 And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 17 Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. 18 And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” 1 Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.
Do not team up - don’t have close relationships with the World. We can’t leave it, but we can’t be too close.
If you would not bring it into a church, don’t bring it into yourself. Why? Because you are the temple… the church. God doesn’t want to live in a building, He wants to live in YOU!
God says he wants to live in you and with you… He wants closeness. To make this happen, we have to come out of the world.

Soul Toxins

You know you need a detox if this verse is sort of your theme verse.
Psalm 42:5 The Message
5 Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues? Fix my eyes on God— soon I’ll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He’s my God.
There are tons of toxins that get into our soul. We will just look at a few. You may not identigy with all of them, but I’ll net we all struggle with some of them.

Unforgiveness

This will pollute you like nothing else.
I’ll show them… they have moved on.
It’s like setting yourself on fire and hoping the other person dies of smoke inhalation.
Hebrews 12:15 NLT
15 Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.
Boudreaux …
We have to let it go. You may think that’s not fair. I don’t want fair, buecause fair means hI have to pay for my own sins.
Ephesians 4:31–32 NLT
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
Do yourself a favor and forgive… Let them off the hook and set yourself free.

Comparison

What do people think? You begin to act like you think others want you to act.
The worst thing going on right now is an identity crisis. We don’t get our identity from what God says about us but we get it from social media. If you don’t get enough likes on your posts, your self image tanks.
James 3:14–16 NLT
14 But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying. 15 For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. 16 For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.
Disorder - sick soul
Maybe some of you need a social media detox. Replace what people say about you with God’s word. Think about it. Everybody has an opinion. We have lost any kind of social graces. Never read the comments under anything.

Anger

I have never seen as much anger in our culture as I see now. Some are loud and some are quiet… you keep it to yourself. If you hold it in… it will eventually come out.
Article after article talks about how people are upset… about economy, kids, face-masks, politics, un-employment running out…
James 4:1–2 NIV84
1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? 2 You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God.
Why are you so mad? boss… kids… governor… school board… it’s always someone else.
I have discovered the common denominator in all the fights I have been in is… me.
You want something but you can’t get it… that’s the thing. I had a right to that lane… that happy life…
What do we do about it…
Here is the real problem… we didn’t get God involved. Your sick soul is not the guy who cut you off… your spouse… Washington DC.

Worry

Soem of you have perfected this and taken to the fear level
Worry is taking responsibility for something God never intended you to be responsible for. Worry is trying to change the past and control the future and it pollutes your now.
Worry will go into every area of your life and it will graduate to fear. economy… blood moons… Y2K… elections…
Jesus said…
Matthew 6:27 NLT
27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
Of course the answer is NO. Listen to me… this life is not all there is. There is another life coming… eternity. Paul said he was a stranger in this land… my citizenship is in heaven.

Soul Detox

So what so the do? How do we detox?
Proverbs 4:23 NKJV
23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.
If your soul is toxic, it will pollute every area of your life. Let’s look at some solutions.

Right Relationships

God’s solution to your toxic soul is people. God said it’s not good to be alone. We all need people we can trust and can talk to. We need friends. We need people we can share our worries, our good things… and we can let our hair down so to speak.
Proverbs 13:20 NLT
20 Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.
You end up in trouble if you hang out with the wrong people.
If you want the toxins out of your life, you better have…

God - defined identity

Don’t listen to your feelings, social media, Hollywood…
Galatians 6:4 The Message
4 Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others.
Find out who you are in God.
If you don’t define yourself, everyone else will define you.
We all struggle with this… I can’t do everything good but I can do some things well and I am going to be who God has called me to be and do what he has called me to do.
If you want to be detoxed, you have to live the…

Crucified Life

You start every day by finding the things that are not from God in your life and give them to God. Ask hi to reveal them and he will … then give them to him.
Galatians 2:20 NLT
20 My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Today, I choose to follow you… to replace my flesh with your Holy Spirit.
Replace anger… unforgiveness… jealousy… with Kindness, forgiveness, and contentment… You can’t be angry at someone when you are dead.
Listen to me. This life will always disappoint you. The perfect life you think you are living will fail. the perfect health you enjoy… something will pop up… you will not be able to do the things you used to do… you will try to remember what it was like to sleep all night. The nest egg you strived for so hard will be hit by inflation… the kids you put everything into will disappoint you.
If you want to detox your soul you better live with an

Eternal Perspective

When we lose someone we love … we grieve, but when we think of eternity, we can rejoice.
I am disappointed by a lot of stuff in this world. Politics, people, culture… but my citizenship is in heave .
Colossians 3:1–2 NIV84
1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
Some of you need that hope.
Psalm 42:5 The Message
5 Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues? Fix my eyes on God— soon I’ll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He’s my God.
This next blank is for you
