A DIFFERENT KIND OF MESSIAH

Chapters 6-10

1. Chapter 6 – The Lord

• The biggest complaint the religious leaders had about Jesus was the healings He performed on the Sabbath. The Jewish religious leaders were so entrenched in their man made traditions that they could not understand what breaking the Sabbath meant. Can you think of some traditions that we use to judge people too harshly?

(6:1-11).

• If Jesus spend a lot of time in prayer do you think we need to especially when we make very important decision? (6:12-19).

• What are the Beatitudes? Matthew 5:1-12? How does Luke differ from Matthew’s? (Luke 6:20-45).

• What kind of foundation did Jesus say was the best? What kind of person did He say built on this foundation?

2. Chapter 7 – Recognizing The Messiah

• What impressed Jesus about the centurion who sent his servants to request Jesus to heal his sick servant? (7:1-10).

• What act of healing did Jesus preform in Nain that caused the people to glorify God? (7:11-17)

• Why did John the Baptist send disciples to Jesus to question His Messiahship? What was Jesus’ response? (7:18-30)

• What did Jesus say about the generation of His day? Why did He make those remarks? (7:31-35).

• As Jesus sat at a Pharisee’s house an unusual event happen, what was that event and what truth did Jesus use to illustrate forgiveness? (7:36-50)

3. Chapter 8 – His Messiahship Displayed through His Ministry

• Were there women involved in Jesus Ministry and who were they and how were they involved? (8:1-3).

• Jesus often taught in parables. What 2 parables did He teach in verses 4-21? What were the meaning of these parables? How do they apply to us today? (8:4-21).

• Jesus and his disciple had got in a boat to cross a lake, on their way over they encountered a severe storm, Jesus had fallen asleep, they became afraid and awakened Him. What was Jesus’ response? (8:22-25)

• Verses 26-39 record Jesus’ awesome power over demonic powers. How does knowing that Jesus has all authority over powers and principalities of the demonic world make you feel? (8:26:39).

• Who was Jairus and what did Jesus do for him? Who else did Jesus encounter on His way to help Jairus and what did Jesus do for that person? (8:40-56).

4. Chapter 9 – The Messiah’s Ministry

• What did Jesus send His disciples out to do? What unusual request did He require of them? (9:1-6, 10-11))

• Who did Herod mistaken Jesus for and why? (9:7-9).

• After Jesus had fed the 5 thousand, He enquired of the disciples what people said of Him then He required them to consider what it meant to follow Him. Have you ever considered what Jesus requires to be a follower of Him today? (9:12-27).

• The Transfiguration was a wonderful experience for Peter, James and John. What do you believe was the significance of this experience? (9:28-36).

• When Jesus and the disciples came down from the mountain what problem did they have waiting for them and how did Jesus solve it? (9:37-45).

• What character was Jesus expecting in His Disciples? (9:46-48).

• What did Jesus mean “for he who is not against you is for you?’ (9:49-50)

• Why did the Samaritans not receive Jesus? What did the disciple want Him to do because they did not receive Him? (9:51-56).

• What did Jesus say the cost of following Him would be? (9:57-62)

5. Chapter 10 – The Results of the Messiah’s Ministry

• Jesus sent out seventy disciples to minister in his name, what were the results of their mission? (10:1-23).

• A lawyer temps Jesus with a question, “Who is my neighbor?” How did Jesus answer him, and how does it apply to us today? (10:25-37).

• When Jesus came to visit Martha and Mary, Martha was upset because Mary was not helping her with preparations for their guest. What was Jesus’ response to Martha and why? How would that apply to us today? (10:38-42).
