Bread and water. The most basic of human needs. You can think of it is as a foundation for sustaining life. It’s not all you need, but you can get by with just that when you have to. And you can build upon that foundation from there. You can be a ‘good person’ and behave as one who follows the guidelines of the Bible, praying for people, doing good works and the like. But without the foundation of knowing Christ, in time that façade will crumble and reveal who you are truly doing these things for. Even if not, God sees your heart; and when your time on earth is up, your eternity will be determined solely on whether or not you know Christ. The rest is just icing on the cake…or bread, as it were.
