Recap last week
Last Weeks Challenge:
Pray for one person in your group each to find rest.
If you feel led to share what you want free from, share that with someone.
What is God wanting you to rest from?
Did God need to rest? It says in Isiah 40:28 that God does not become weary or tired.
Hebrew Rest found in God rested on the seventh day.
Rest = Shabath H7673 Cease, Rest, Celebrate
1 to cease, desist, to rest, desist (from labour).
1C to cause to cease, put an end to.
1C2 to exterminate, destroy.
1C3 to cause to desist from.
1C4 to remove.
1C5 to cause to fail.
2 to keep or observe the sabbath.
In other words, He ceased creating the universe and mankind in the way He was creating. He moved on from creating that way to creating relationship.
Have you ever finished a job and you pause and reflect on how satisfying it is to look at? How fast do you move to the next thing?
God’s Sabath or rest is the in-between place of what was and was is coming. In this space you have gratitude and celebrate what was. You also have an anticipation for what will be.
Did God need to rest?
Because He is the place of rest he wanted to demonstrate rest.
Come to me all who are trying to find peace, relief. rest.
Give you rest
Comes from a greek word
Anapauo G3731 to cause or permit one to cease from any movement or labour.
2 to give rest, refresh, to give one’s self rest, take rest.
3 to keep quiet, of calm and patient expectation.
Comes from a root word paua G39731 to make to cease or desist.
2 to restrain a thing or person from something.
3 to cease, to leave off.
4 have got release from sin. 4A no longer stirred by its incitements and seductions.
Pause from what you were doing.Dont move yet. Keep calm and patient with expectation. Finding that place where you are not trying to find peace or relief outside of God. We go to all these things to get relief or peace. We are hurting so we try to numb through...We are numb so we try to feel by taking a risk or hurting ourselves. We are looking for that peace so we strive to finish at all costs and never rest.
Enter into His rest today. Stop
You dont need to race to what is next to satisfy.
Pause and look at what He has done through your life.
Let your spirit be expectant of what will be next. Be patient and wait until the right time.
One of the purposes of rest is to be able to stand and stay full.
We should not give ourselves until we are dead.We should give from a place of full.
God’s Sabath or rest is the in-between place of what was and was is coming. In this space, you have gratitude and celebrate what was. You also have anticipation for what will be, but we need to stay in that pause for the right time.
The Place of Rest is a place of being full.
Remaining full Today I want to go after anything that we use to substitute real rest with. All addictions. All things that we have been tricked that will bring rest to us.
REST 2
God told us to stay on this topic this week and dont hurry to what is next.
Testimonies:
Play Kids Video Peter Walks on Water.
We get some great illustrated lessons from this story.
Rest and peace are in our lives when we are in our purpose-fulfilling place with Jesus.
Rest is not in the place where there is no suffering.
When we focus on the potential problems of our past experiences, we lose our peace and rest.
Peter was in his place of purpose when He was responding what what Jesus was saying to him.
Peter was in his place of purpose when he was having to have courage and step out in trust.
John 16:33 NASB95
33 “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
In my life right now the times I lose peace the most is when I focus on the potential problems of now based on past experiences.
Matthew 14:32 NASB95
32 When they got into the boat, the wind stopped.
There are two times in the story where the wind seems to not matter any more.
When Peter gets out in the water with Jesus, and when Jesus gets in the boat with the disciples.
We find rest when we are with Jesus.
Some seasons Jesus comes into what we are doing.
Other times Jesus asks us to step out into the impossible.
Both of those times have the potential of suffering.
But with Jesus we will find rest and peace.
Jesus asked the disciples to go into the boat and then a storm came.
Here is how we think most of the time.
When a storm comes after we took our first step of faith in following what Jesus said, we say I must of missed something.
Maybe God did not tell be to go out on the boat.
Maybe I was supposed to wait.
Maybe I did not hear Him at all?
Jesus asked you to do some thing but then a storm came.
This storm is not the point of the story.
Finding rest and peace, trusting, having faith, taking courage in Jesus is the point of the story.
Rest is not the absence of storms.
Rest is not the absence of suffering or even potential suffering.
Rest and peace come in your life when you are fulfilling your purpose with Jesus.
Are there any areas of my life I dismissed as not God, because a storm popped up?
Where have I been focusing on the potential suffering instead of Jesus?
How can I focus on Jesus instead?
Closing:
Rest and peace are in our lives when we are in our purpose-fulfilling place with Jesus.
When we focus on the potential problems of our past experiences, we lose our peace and rest.
Jesus is not wanting you to have no more storms in your life.
He wants you to know how to take courage and do things that are impossible when you see a storm.
He wants you to know how to invite Him into what you are doing in the middle of the storm.
Jesus wants you to know how to find rest and peace in any kind of environment.
Some seasons Jesus comes into what we are doing.
Other times Jesus asks us to step out into the impossible.
At all time Jesus wants us to live from a place of rest and fullness of Him.
Today’s Challenge
Where have I been focusing on the potential suffering instead of Jesu?
Are there any areas of my life I dismissed as not God because a storm popped up?
What is Jesus asking me to take courage in?

22 Immediately He made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side, while He sent the crowds away. 23 After He had sent the crowds away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone. 24 But the boat was already a long distance from the land, battered by the waves; for the wind was contrary. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea. 26 When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” 28 Peter said to Him, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” 29 And He said, “Come!” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 When they got into the boat, the wind stopped.
